Don't use any of the ones with menthol or that say medicated. These messed my lips up really badly. And if you are having peeling, etc., you have to treat them gently, so don't exfoliate at all. Use a product like Carmex. At night you can use an ointment like a cortisone. Lay off liptsticks until you get this corrected.

Dry, peeling lips?

I'm hoping you knowledgeable ladies can offer some advice. My lips are so sore from dryness, they are peeling, and I feel like they're tight. I put balm on them every hour, my lips seem to just drink it in. Last night I found a recipe online for a sugar scrub using sugar, oil, and honey. I used it, and they are no better this morning, and I wore balm to bed. The tight feeling is even above my upper lip. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

Some balms actually do the opposite of what you expect them too. Rather than using the balm, just use a couple of drops of a good oil and nothing else. Keep repeating as needed.

Hi, I had a similar problem. The dryness started in the corners of my lips -- ok, I thought maybe I missed some toothpaste. I was extra careful to make sure I rinsed the corners after I brushed. That really didn't help much. Then my lips started peeling, first on one side. Using various formulas of my beloved Burt's Bees didn't seem to help, so I tried Blistex. That really didn't do much after the first couple of days. Meanwhile, my lips were now fully red/peeling/swollen, even going to a sore above my lip. Looked so awful, & of course I couldn't wear lipstick to cover it. Even my husband made a remark how sore my lips looked.

I was ready to call my doctor for an appointment, when I got an idea: I wonder if there's such a thing as Eczema of the lips? I googled it, & indeed there is. That night I bought some Cortizone-10 Intense Healing Formula (Maximum Strength). It comes in a tube. I put it on my lips, extending it to the sore above my lip. I continued to apply a couple of times a day. IT WORKED!! By the end of a week my lips were back to normal, feeling/looking better than they had in months.

Maybe the Cortizone-10 Intense Healing Formula will work for you. Hope you find some relief.

LT

I've been laid up for the past week with a sinus/bronchial infection and this has helped my dried out lips so much.

Thanks for all the great advice! I did remove my Burt's Bees balm, and put on some Argan oil, right now they're kind of burning. It's funny Miss Q, I was just thinking of trying the Eos also. I've tried Carmex, and it kind of worked, but after a while, not so much. I'll look on line for the Neosporin, and also try the Cortisone. Of course, one at a time, lol! Again, thanks to all! Great ideas. Liza

I have this problem year round if I don't moisturize my lips. Burts Bees or anything with menthol doesn't work for me. Josie Maran lip quench works the best for me. Its marketed as a gloss but it is much more than that. The one with color is nice but not as moisturizing as the original. It's pricey but for me well worth it.

I highly recommend e.l.f. lip exfoliator. It comes in a tube and it's shaped like a lipstick. You simply apply to clean, damp lips, rub it in, then remove with a moistened cotton ball or pad. I apply lip balm afterward. Works like a dream and it's only $3 at Target!

OUCH!!! Balm = menthol....stop using immediately. Nothing is better than that kind of balm. Exfoliate?? Why?? Stop doing that immediately. Bless your heart...it's was painful to read your post!

Two words...Lip Smackers = cheap, available anywhere, beeswax is soothing...just get one from the grocery store ($2ish) & wear 24/7/365...even under your lip color.

stop using lip balm! most of it is very drying actually and it can't seal in any moisture if there isn't any; I have found blistex daily lip conditioner, in a very small round jar, to be the best thing I have used; it is usually in the drugstore with the chapsticks, etc. Nivea also makes some very good lip treatments that look like lipsticks...not balms, but they feel very slick and liquid when you apply

Blistex Silk & Shine - grey tube in purple packaging. Most healing thing available, imo.

Be sure to not be using anything that has "plumping" or tingling properties, drink lots of water, and cut back on anything astringent, including mouthwashes and minty toothpaste (baking soda is a very soothing substitute for regular toothpaste, and salt water is a healing/antiseptic mouthwash).

Good luck - read ingredients on everything you use.
