Quite a few primers and pore blurring products have recently hit the market. I've read positive reviews on all of them and I've read not so great reviews on all of them. Buy from a store that takes returns on used cosmetics like Walgreens, Ulta, CVS.

Maybelline Baby Skin

Garnier 5 Second Blur - very new, not everyone has it on shelves yet

L'Oreal Miracle Blur - regular or oil free

L'Oreal Youth Code Pore Vanisher

Benefit Porefessional

Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector

I love the IT Bye Bye Pores powder. I pat it on with a flocked makeup puff thing and then sweep a big powder brush across my face.

What primer do you recommend for large pores? I know I can't get rid of them, but I need something that will hide them even if I decide not to wear foundation.

I recommend addressing them with skincare more so than with primer, namely oil cleansing and exfoliation. If you use a toner, witch hazel also helps with them. I recommend Thayers.

I have been mixing baking soda into my cleanser with good results on making my pores smaller. Smashbox has a line filler that can fill lines and be used for pores as well. The best primer I have ever used is YSL but it is expensive for me. I also use Tru Magic by Cover Girl. It works as a primer and it also sets your make up. It is like Mally's defender.

It's less expensive than Tatcha and yet you get more in the bottle. I get it from Amazon. I've been a little tempted to try DHC, but haven't bought any yet.

Benefit's POREfessional patted on the pores you want to cover, rather than smoothed or rubbed on. It's expensive and some have compared it to Maybelline's Baby Skin. I haven't tried Maybelline's version so I can't comment on it. It might be one to try if you don't want to invest a lot in a primer though. Good luck.

Laura Mercier's primer is fantastic. That's my ""special occasion"" primer because it works so beautifully.

Makeup Forever also has some great primers that address specific problems. I use the green-tinted one for my red nose (sigh).

I like Witch Hazel, I buy it at CVS, clear bottle yellow and white label. I use it just like a toner right before my moisturizer. Just checked and the brand is Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Pore Perfectomg Toner. 100% natural, oil free. It really made a difference for me, hope this helps.

If you do a search on "pores" on the board, you will come across some old threads with lots of suggestions for primers and makeup brands. (I know, because I just did one.)

ETA: On another thread, someone suggested mixing a bit of serum with foundation and applying that. I tried it this morning and it worked perfectly. I'm very happy about that. (My pore issue is my nose.)

Also, my large-pore problem became a LARGE problem when I started using straight coconut oil on my face. YMMV, of course, but now that I'm back to using other products (retinol + CeraVe at night), the pores are becoming less obvious. So--no more straight oils on the face for me.
