You handle it by saying "thank you." Otherwise you are being ugly too, which negates any benefits you might get from your makeup.

This video is simply beautiful. Too many times I read on this board, criticisms that can hurt people's feelings. Criticisms that I bet some wouldn't have the guts to say to someone in real life.

There is nothing wrong if someone wants to wear orange lipstick with purple eyeshadow. Or a fake tan. Or extensions. Or pale lipstick. Or dark lip liner. Or hair pulled backed. Or wear a black dress all the time. Or wear acrylic nails. Even if you think it's too much, don't be rude and say that to someone's face. Why even feel the need to say it, or even type it? Aside from the fact that you can and it's a free country. We all like what we like. What makes one person's way better than another's?

I've never been in this situation. But I would do exactly what she stated if the situation were o ever happen.

I didn't see the video but I agree with KrissieK.Having been in MK for 15 yrs.We had an image we had to conform to.Mk told us many times when we had our meetings she was aware of comments made because we were all dressed to the standards of the company...You are doing something right to even get a response either good are bad.Think of all the people who walk on this earth everyday and no response of any kind is made to them at all.To this day I always say Thank You! reguardless if I know it was not a compliment and love to see the look on their face it always stuns them....disappointment that their rudness didn't affect me......

That's a matter of opinion - people comment on my eye make up ALL the time. They want to know what the colors are, or how I do it, or if I'm a professional. There is nothing wrong with dramatic make-up if it's done right. The "bare/natural" look isn't for everyone, it's a "style" like everything else.

I agree.I'm still trying to figure what the natural look is lol.

Oh, please. You just say a cheerful "thank you!" and move on. Snide remarks can only hurt you if YOU let them . ALso if you wear bright or extravagant make, you do so because you. want to be noticed. Well, sometimes the attention you get, will not be positive. That's okay, as long as you are happy.

As a Connecticut Yankee in the South, I know what 'bless your heart' means and I can only imagine what is being said (or thought) after that.

Being a Southern girl myself, I know all about "Bless Your Heart". I know it can be used several ways. I pulled through a drive-thru just a few days ago during a downpour...cars were backed up...the girl inside had a trashbag over her uniform like a raincoat...rain was slapping her in the face everytime she opened the window because the wind had changed and was directing the rain towards the window. I felt so bad for her; she was giving service with a smile the whole time! I gave her my money and said, "Well, bless your heart"....I actually meant it!! I used it in a good way!

Maybe you need a makeover. Go to a cosmetic counter and see what they suggest. You may be surprised! There was this lady customer I waited on for many years. She wore this god awful brite blue eye shadow every day. I guess no one close to her had the guts to tell her how bad it looked. She put it on everyday so she must have thought it looked good.....maybe when she was 17?

Kind of reminds me of someone I worked with one time. She commented on a prospective employee I had just finished testing (who, in fact, WAS wearing too much eye makeup).

Her comment: 'too bad she uses so much eye makeup - it doesn't improve her ugly appearance'. MY comment: ' Ugly can be fixed. Stupid can't'. 13 years later 'ugly' is still with the company; I managed to get rid of 'stupid' 6 weeks later.

Off subject, but brings me to another issue about people's comments. I have ongoing mobility issues. Have and use a scooter and/or walker, and often use the scooters in stores. Have permanent handicapped plates on my vehicles. Some days, I get around just fine when first parking at a store, but before finishing shopping, I have to get a scooter to check out and get to car.

One day, late in the day after doing a lot of walking, I had one more stop for milk (always at the back of the store). It was scooter time. I parked in a handicapped spot. Got out, got my cane. A person (I couldn't call her a lady) said to me: 'why are you in a handicapped spot? You don't appear to be handicapped'. I had my pat answer to that all ready: 'and YOU don't appear to be an a*ssho*e, but looks can sure be deceiving, can't they'.
