Flipping Hair Out or Flipping Under - ?

What does everyone do, and what determines why you do it like that?

For years I've been flipping out. No comments!

My hair is not really undercut, but this a.m. I flipped under, and it really looks nice. I got lots of volume with Chaz's medium round brush and a few medium Caruso curlers.

I've always had one side of my head that has wanted to flip under naturally, while the other side has preferred to flip out naturally.

I've usually been a flip under sort but maybe just out of habit. On the rare occasion that I have flipped out, I've liked the look but I think I look best and feel most comfortable with the flip under.

If done well, a good flip out style does look really cute but I do think hair often looks more voluminous and full when flipped under .... or maybe that depends on the hair type. A fuller head of hair can often pull off more diversity in styling than very fine thin hair can.

My hair naturally is just all over the place! I have to flat iron otherwise it's just a crazy mess.

I can straighten it stick straight and by mid morning once my hair relaxes it does it's own slight flip under. My hair is just a couple inches below my shoulders.

I have fine, straight hair that my stylist cuts with an undercut, into a longish bob. Her cut is so good that I just have to use my fingers and it flips under naturally, without me having to use round brushes or other tools. That flipping under gives the cut great volume.

Sorry, just can't help myself.......but you're not alone!

Can't share much of my experiences with hair flipping, but I could share some experiences flipping something else!

Either way, that's the fun with having your type of hair, you can create different looks with it!

You are so lucky to have a stylist that can give you that cut. Mine used to do it that way - and others I've been to (esp younger stylists) won't cut hair that way. I always feel like the first few times I go to somebody, they pay attention, then they just stop listening to what you want.

Maybe I'm not clear about what you mean by flipping under. Mine is a short-ish bob with long front, the front pieces curl naturally and I hate it! Luckily, flatironing will last until my next shampoo unless it's really humid out. I think flipped under is really aging, at least on me. Hair looks so much better after I flatiron the side/front pieces straight.

Cindy, I discovered that Aveda stylists all seem to know how to do the undercut in the same way. Have been to 3 Aveda salons through recent years. Each new stylist knew exactly what I wanted and each cut my hair in exactly the same way. I think they do pretty intensive training with specific methods for their stylists so that cuts are consistent. Love that!

What I really meant is when you are blow drying. I was using the round brush to flip out and dry at the same time, because I eventually would have directed my hair to flip out, as I just style with my fingers afterward.

I just don't like straight on me. One thing I've never had to do is flat iron. My hair looks better with some kind of lift (either under or out!)

I roll it under because I have thin, fine hair and it makes me appear to have volume.
