skincare dupes, e.i. - Genefique vs Youth Code

I understand that many of the high-end skincare products frequently have more affordable dupes. We all know that L'Oreal Paris owns Lancome and I''m sure they must duplicate many of their products. One frequently mentioned is Youth Code Serum ($11-12) which is widely rumored to be the same as Genefique ($60). I'm sure that there are more. e.i. - Lancome has a very nice day dream (Absolue) but it's super expensive ($l80) - is there a similar L'Oreal cream? Does anyone know of a site where such information is available? I know that Paula Begouin (Cosmetic Cop) frequently alludes to them but she never specifies. I've done a search on Google but nothing came up.

Lots of focus group testing, lots of expensive packaging, which of course ups the price of the product. Not to mention the advertising costs.

Even knowing that, I still reach for the package that I find most appealing, and kind of ignore the less attractive ones.

So yeah, I've no doubt the big companies have less expensive alternatives available under different brand names. They have the actives and ingredients and recipes, they'd want to make as much money off of it as possible, across all price points.

Good thread -- thanks!!

You can compare ingredient lists between the high end brand products and their drugstore counterparts. (ie: compare Lancome absolue ingredients to the L'Oreal moisturizers to see if there is something like it) I find that the lists are often similar, but not identical.
