What Makes You Want To Buy Make-up or Skincare?

I have been asking myself this because I want to use what I have and not buy anymore until I use up all my products.

Is it TV, magazine ads, home shopping networks, what people like on these boards, friends and family etc

Ingredients. I do look at recs from this board. There are several posters who share my interest in certain ingredients. Great example is the very recent thread about ASDM Beverly Hills.

I guess the fact that my mother always wore it (and looks beautiful!), but I think it's really just about looking my best. I suffered from mild-moderate acne in high school and college (despite countless derm appts, lotions & potions, abx, facials, etc), and I had a mom who always stressed the importance of taking care of yourself, including washing and moisturizing your face, etc -- and SUNSCREEN (thanks, mom!!!) I've loved MU for as long as I can remember! There's always going to be something new and "better" and I like trying new things, but I'm also trying to cut back.

My age. But I think it is fun to see the pretty packaging and the all the pretty colors - for very girly girl fun. Sometimes when I am having one of those days, buying a little lip gloss or something pretty can turn it around. That is the fun part of being a girl - because the rest of it can be really hard.

I really don't like spending money on make-up and I don't buy much. I feel I do need make-up at my age now when I go out, especially foundation. I don't care for the process of putting it on either. Seems I can never get it right. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm glad I don't have to wear it every day. I do like lip glosses though.

I love makeup and skincare and without it my skin would be a dried up blotchy uncomfortable mess. I like experimenting and finding something that works best for me. I have several products that are must haves and my search in those areas has ended. It's fun. Everyone has something they like to purchase and don't mind spending money on and for me it's this.

I've always been a skin care junkie. The problem with skin care is the product plateaus before you finish the line. Like above, I am no longer buying anymore skin care until every last drop is used up. Control is the answer....

I am really never enticed too much unless I have something specific in mind and I'm already searching for it. If something happens to come on shopping TV, or is advertised on TV or in a magazine, and it addresses what I'm after, then I look more intently.

Some suggestions that I come across are kept in the back of my mind or I write them down, and then when the time comes, I may follow through with a purchase.

So many new brands and lines that have come down the pike, I'll look into -- in skincare for ingredients -- but most of them are variations on a theme and are rarely better mousetraps.

My sense of adventure, wanting to try something new, hoping for beautiful results. I can go months (sometimes years!) using the same products over and over without even thinking about it, then something will catch my eye and I'm off on a spree to try new items for both skincare and makeup.

Then something totally different will get my attention, and I'll put skin care on a back burner again. It's fun to read reviews and opinions here, but I really don't buy much or often. If I find a product I like, I'm loyal to it for a long, looong time.

I enjoy watching the beauty shows (and infomercials in the middle of the night!) for ideas and demonstrations, but I don't get caught up in the hype unless I'm specifically looking for something new to try and there it is.

Oh if only I woke up each morning with even skin tone, flushed cheeks, natural tinted lips, long dark lashes ... life would be good. Since that is not going to happen, I grudgingly buy makeup. Skincare, on the other hand, is a joy to learn about and buy. I am really into natural ingredients and products, and am amazed at the low/reasonable costs - not to mention the awesome results.

I hardly buy any now. It had become a hobby. I would read reviews here, read magazines and ads, etc. And false hope. Thinking it would make a real difference and it doesn't.

It was a hobby. Pure and simple.

I started as a teen ager using the popular 60's brand Yardley make-up and haven't stopped since! I've been continuously fascinated with taking care of my skin and improving my looks and love new products because of the ingredients and colors and sometimes the packaging. I'm 62 and still having fun with it and must admit I look darn good for my age. I do what I can afford to do and always feel like I am giving myself a treat. If things don't work for me I pass them on to family and friends who are usually thrilled because they maybe buy one lipstick a year and still wash their faces with a bar of soap! All in all, I buy because it just makes me feel good!
