A question about JM's argan oil

I happened to be on her site looking at the ingredients of the new Argan Milk and was surprised to see that while all the other ingredients in it are labeled as "natural," her oil itself isn't:

INGREDIENTS: Aqua (Water)** (and) Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil* (and) Propanediol** (and) Glyceryl Caprylate** (and) Glyceryl Undecylenate** (and) Phosphatidylglycerol** (and) Sodium Benzoate** (and) Xanthan Gum** (and) Citric Acid**.

*ORGANIC **NATURAL

So then I checked out her Argan oil by itself and found the same labeling. Her oil is "organic" but not "natural."

Does this mean that it is refined?

I'm not a JM argan oil user, however, I would venture to guess that refining takes place. There are different methods of refining, and I would also venture to guess that Josie's process does not involve heat or chemicals.

"Argana Vita Argan oil is refined with FDA and Ecocert approved filters. They do not involve the use of any chemicals or interfere with the quality of the oil. It is a 100% mechanical process where the oil flows through 1 micron sized holes in the filter. Particles larger than 1 micron are blocked and the oil is refined while remaining 100% natural." https://www.arganavita.com/argan-oil-production

Thanks, Harpa. Interesting because I had actually considered Argana Vita at one time but went with Shea Terra, which is unrefined.

I think this may explain why I've read that JM's oil has no detectable scent, whereas my STO oil has a slight nutty smell.

I really don't think that there a "better" when it comes to something like this.

I happen to prefer the oil in its most natural state, although I'm sure that if it's refined carefully, as described in Harpa's quote, it's still beneficial. I just think that as long as I'm going to use it, I might as well get the absolute most out of it.

Anyway, I happen to like the slight nutty aroma. I trust the quality of my STO oils, and I like how they are packaged.

Thanks I agree I like the smell. I got a sample set that came packages in a handmade bag from Uganda. I'm using it to keep my oils in.

But I just realized that I'm quite sure that JM talks about her oil as being unrefined. Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't she say that it's hand-pressed? I swear I recall that. So I don't get why she wouldn't label it as "natural," then.

Oh, I agree that it's thrown around a lot by companies. But the fact remains that JM has two labels that it applies -- "natural" and "organic," denoted by the use of one or two asterisks. And the company does not give the "natural" asterisk to its oil.

I'm just surprised at that given the company's description of how it sourced and produced.

I noticed this only because I'm mildly interested in the Argan milk serum, and it won't affect my decision whether to try that product or not. I just thought it was curious.

I know that it doesn't have any legal definition.

FWIW, I wasn't criticizing her argan oil, just commenting on the the fact that the company applies only one of the two labels to the product.

Josie has said many times on air that her Argan Oil is first cold pressed and that heat is never used. I am sure it is filtered as mentioned above, hence the light color and absence of any detectable smell.

I always figured hers is more refined than some of the others based on the differences between hers and other argan oils I've tried.

I believe Josie's oil is cold pressed, which I'm not sure always equates to being hand pressed, and I don't know if hers is hand pressed or not. Many consider the cold pressing technique creates the 'best ' oils.
