What is WEN®?
WEN® is a revolutionary new concept in cleansing your hair that has Hollywood buzzing. It was developed as a healthy alternative to the way people are used to cleansing their hair; eliminating the use of shampoo and its harsh detergents and chemicals. WEN® Cleansing Conditioners replace shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner, giving you five products in one bottle.

2. Will WEN® really get my hair clean? Won’t I need shampoo?
WEN® uses a combination of natural extracts and botanicals to hydrate and cleanse your hair without the use of harsh detergents and chemicals. The perfect mixture and blend of its ingredients leave your hair healthy, moisturized, and cleansed. Once you start to use our products exclusively, you will never have to use shampoo ever again. In fact, you won’t even want to.

3. Which WEN® should I get?
You really can't go wrong no matter which one you try. They are all designed to be used with colored or natural hair, and we like to say that all hair types will benefit from all of the Cleansing Conditioners. That said, the different formulas were developed for different reasons:

Sweet Almond Mint: The original formula. This is the one you get if you don't know where to start. It is a universal formula that will benefit all hair types from the finest, most brittle hair, to the thickest, curliest hair types.

Tea Tree: Designed originally for thicker hair, it will hydrate even the coarsest hair types. However, the benefits of Tea Tree are also great for thinning hair and scalp issues like redness or flakiness.

Fig: Think moisture, this is our most hydrating formulation. Great for thick, curly hair as well as dry, dehydrated, over-processed hair.

Cucumber Aloe: Our lightest weight formula. Cucumber Aloe is great for fine hair as well as those with oily scalps.

Lavender: Our volumizing Cleansing Conditioner. Lavender offers hydration without weighing the hair down. If you need volume and body, this is the one for you.

Pomegranate: The newest edition to the line, Pomegranate is universal for all hair types. Unlike the others, Pomegranate uses soy protein instead of wheat, so if you have a wheat allergy this one is perfect for you.

4. What is the difference between shampoo and WEN® Cleansing Conditioners?
First of all, WEN® cleanses the hair without harsh detergents or chemicals, leaving your hair clean and hydrated without stripping or lather. Since WEN® does not have any sodium laurel/laureth sulfates, it does not strip your color or your natural oils. This means, color will stay vibrant longer and you won’t be damaging your hair or scalp.

5. How do you use the WEN® Cleansing Conditioners?

Rinse hair thoroughly, apply WEN® into your palms and rub together. Use 10-16 pumps for short hair, 16-24 pumps for medium length hair and 24-32 pumps for long hair. If your hair is longer/thicker you may need to increase the amount of pumps. Apply to scalp and hair, adding a splash of water to evenly distribute. WEN® has no harsh detergents or sodium lauryl sulfate, so it won't lather. Massage thoroughly into hair and leave on for the remainder of your shower. Rinse thoroughly and completely, massaging scalp and running fingers through to the ends. Apply 1/2 to 1 pump depending on hair length and texture as a leave-in conditioner to soaking wet hair. For best results we highly suggest you cleanse, rinse and repeat, using half the recommended pumps for the first cleanse, and the remaining half for the second cleanse. Unlike many ordinary shampoos, you may find you don't need to cleanse as often.

Above direction are for 6oz/16oz bottles, refer to label directions for other size bottles.

Immediately after, add 1-3 pumps of the Styling Creme of your choice to soaking wet hair starting at the back of the head and working thought to the ends.

Let hair dry naturally, style or wrap a towel around your head to absorb moisture. Do not abrasively dry your head with a towel as this will stress the hair and cause it to frizz.

Additional Suggestions

You can cleanse daily but when used properly you should only have to cleanse every 2-3 days. Our 16oz size may last you up to 6 weeks.

For extra hydrating and conditioning, you can use the Cleansing Conditioner as an overnight deep hydrating mask treatment. Simply leave on the hair after you have cleansed, cover hair with a shower cap or plastic bag overnight, and rinse out thoroughly in the morning.

6. My hair looks greasy and/or weighed down. I tried using less of the product and it has not helped. What is wrong?
One of the most common misconceptions about the WEN® product line is that it works like a shampoo. Meaning, the more you use, the greasier your hair will end up. This couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, if you aren’t using enough of the Cleansing Conditioner, it won’t be able to clean your hair. The correct number of pumps varies depending on a number of traits: length, texture, etc. If you want to be safe, the more you use of WEN®, the better.

7. How many times a week should I use WEN®? Will it damage my hair if I wash it every day?
The more you use WEN®, the better! You can use it every day, twice a day, and it will simply hydrate and moisturize your hair. In fact, we generally suggest that when you first start out with our product you use it every day. This will help to heal and re-hydrate the damage that shampoo (among many other things) has caused. As you continue to use our products, you will find that you no longer have to cleanse as often.

8. How do I use WEN® as an overnight treatment?
In order to use WEN® as an overnight treatment, you will need to get in the shower and cleanse like you normally do. After you are done thoroughly rinsing out the product, re-apply with half the number of pumps (or more for added benefits). Splash with water, massage vigorously, and comb through with a wide-tooth comb. Now, either wrap your head in a towel or wear a shower cap, and leave on for as long as possible! Ideally, overnight. But even fifteen to twenty minutes will benefit you tremendously. Rinse out thoroughly and apply leave-in like you normally do.

9. When am I supposed to use the WEN® Oils?
The oils are very multi-purposed. You can use them after your hair has dried by simply adding 1-2 drops into the palm of your hand and running them through your ends, just for added moisture. You can also use them to tame frizz in the same fashion (a few drops into your palms which you then run over the problem areas). The WEN® Oils give extra shine and moisture to dry hair. If you add a few drops of the oil into your leave-in, you can also help to eliminate frizz that way. If you have a dry, itchy, or flaky scalp, we suggest sleeping with the Tea Tree Oil on your scalp overnight so that it works as a treatment. You can also apply Oil to your ends in the meanwhile, so that it works as a hydration mask. Apply 4-6 dropper-fulls of the Tea Tree Oil directly to your scalp and massage vigorously. Then, apply 4-6 dropper-fulls into your palm to apply to your ends. Sleep with this in (it’s not messy so it won’t get on your pillows or sheets), and cleanse out in the morning. Since the Tea Tree Oil is so invigorating and medicinal, it will help promote hair growth and help heal any scalp issues you may experience. The Sweet Almond Mint, Fig, Cucumber Aloe, and Lavender Oils are great for moisture, shine and promoting healthy hair growth. WEN Oils can also be added to your bathwater to moisturize your skin, and create an inviting aromatherapy experience. Applied to the body after showering, prior to towel drying, WEN Oils will leave your skin soft, supple, and hydrated. WEN Oils are also excellent used as massage oils.

10. When I get to the bottom of the bottle, the pump seems to stop working. How do I fix this?
We suggest adding some distilled or bottled water and shake to mix thoroughly. Use a couple of extra pumps to make up for the slight dilution of the cleanser.

11. How do I open a wholesale account? Where else can I purchase your products?
At this time the only places you are able to purchase the WEN® product line is on our website (www.chazdean.com), through QVC, through Guthy Renker via the WEN® infomercial or wenhaircare.com and at our salon in Hollywood, CA.

But, you guys!!!! This is SUCH A GREAT IDEA!!!

Let's turn this thread into a "WEN 101" thread.

Post all of your best advice for newbies here and then we can refer them to this thread whenever a newbie comes along looking for advice. Or, if there are any more great YouTube videos (made by users or Chaz), or other internet links that would be good for newbies, we could store them here, too. Stuff like that. Then we could just give them the link to this thread and they could hunt around for tips that seem relevant to their hair-type and situation.

Isn't that a good idea!!

My #1 tip is to add the splash of water, or 2, or 3. Gets a good froth going when you massage it into your scalp and hair. Transformed the way I use Wen and the results I get.

Great idea!! Here goes: Remember to use the recommended pumps for your hair length. Split the pumps in half and use half for the first cleanse which takes the dirt oil and product out of your hair. Use the other half of the pumps for the second cleanse which conditions and moisturizes the hair. Always put at least 6 pumps on your scalp per cleanse and focus the rest on your ends. The number of pumps on ends will vary depending on length. For the first cleanse, add the pumps to your scalp and ends and really message your scalp. Add an extra splash of water to distribute the product and get the cleanser really rich and creamy. Rinse, rinse, rinse. Add the remaining pumps to the hair. Add the splash of water and massage and comb it through. Leave the Wen on your hair for 3-5 minutes while you finish your shower. Rinse, rinse, rinse until you don't feel any cleansing conditioner in your hair. Add a half pump to a pump of cleansing conditioner to the midshaft and ends as a leave in conditioner. Add a half pump to a pump of styling creme to the midshaft and ends. Rake and twist it through. Add any other styling products needed. Towel blot being careful not to rough up your hair. Style as usual making sure you use a nozzle on your hair dryer so it won't singe and burn your hair. Your hair should be clean, soft, shiny, and bouncy. Enjoy!!!

Okay---come closer...because I am only going to write this once...a day.

I can't use the core scents---I get much better results with the seasonals mixed with a bit of 613. BE SURE TO WET HAIR thoroughly before beginning. WET. REALLY WET! Mix your pumps in your hand, massage into your hair well, then step under shower again and add more water. Massage the froth into your hiar well, and leave in for two minutes while you finish showering. BE SURE YOU USE ENOUGH WEN---don't worry, you probably won't have to cleanse as often. After two mnutes RINSE LIKE CRAZY---use the hand held shower head if you have one. Good water pressure is a must.

I never cleanse twice, never leave a leave in pump of CC. I do add one pump of styling cream to my wet hair and comb through with wide tooth comb. Hair looks great.

Can't use anything with significant menthol. The seasonals, 613 and the Bamboo work best for me. Did not like WEN at first when I tried the lavendar, the SAM---just did not work for me. i have long fine hair.

My hair has never looked better and I am 49 years young. I am always getting compliments on my hair. The MAIN things that will lead you to WEN success are:

Do not use any other products while using wen. By this I mean make a commitment ANY product you put in your hair should be Wen. This includes styling products. I even take my Wen with me to the stylist. This will give you the true Wen experience. Other products contain certain things that will interfere with Wen's "work"

Use the 1 pump of CC as a leave in and use the styling cream right after that. Do this step on wet hair.

Try the oils! They will double as a deep conditioner/overnight treatment AND can be used as a finishing product on dry hair. I use about a dropper full but it depends on your hair type and length.

I have tried EVERY formulation and yes I do have my favorites. Experiment. Anytime you can get a "variety pack" or a sampler at a good price buy it. Look for specials. Sign up for notifications to both your phone and email so you will know when Chaz is on. I have saved lots of money by getting the TSV's and OTO's

Lastly, don't run out. Make sure you always have a back up CC. You don't need closet fulls but I always have one extra on hand.

Good luck and ENJOY!!!!!!

I want to like this product! My hair is so soft and wonderful with it, but I still have to wash everyday. I'd say the lack of whatever strips color from your hair is doing its job, but I've still heard that water is the enemy of color.

When I was using regular shampoo, I could go at least 2 days without a shampoo, but with WEN it's greasy the next day.

I have a brunette, fine, color-treated hair in an angled bob. I am 47 and just started using permanent color, just for the benefit that WEN can give me.

I am not too concerned with the cost, if it means I can go without washing at least a day in between and if it cuts down on in-between-color time.

Any suggestions? I am partial to the lavender. I like a tea tree mixed in every now and then. Pomegranate is good, too. Using Winter Vanilla Mint and Lavender, (not together) right now.

Thanks so much!

I do get it really wet and I rinse really well.

I will try mixing in my hands. I just blob it onto my head and add splashes of water and froth it up. If I add too many splashes it just rinses it out.

I have used 8-12 pumps, with each cleanse, settling on 10. Certainly haven't tried less. You haven't said how long you've been using Wen. I mention this because it may take some time for your hair to acclimate and for you to be able to get to just 2-3 cleanses a week.

When you use shampoo, it strips your hair's natural oils from your scalp, and so your body starts overproducing oil to compensate, which is why when I used shampoo I HAD to wash my hair every single day. When I started using Wen, I also had to cleanse EVERY single day for the few couple weeks. Once your body gets the message that the scalp's natural oils are no longer being stripped out, you will stop overproducing oil, and then you'll be able to cleanse every other day. Eventually your body will acclimate to using Wen and you'll be able to cleanse 2-3 times a week.

When I first started using Wen I was EXTREMELY oily (my scalp and face). I had to shampoo my hair every single day. Now, I'm no longer oily, and I actually have to cleanse when my ends start to get dry -- NOT when my scalp starts to look dirty.

Best of luck to you! And a willingness to experiment is REALLY great and super important, because what works for one person won't work for another person, and so you should feel free to play around with it and figure out what works best for you. Reading all these boards is a GREAT way to get some really good suggestions for different ways to experiment with Wen!

Push the pump all the way down (always starting from the very top) and let it come all the way back up before pushing the pump completely back down again.

WEN instructional videos are available on wenbychazdean's youtube channel, if you need more info on proper usage.

I have used it several times. A few years ago I never got the hang of it. The last few months of 2013, I was using it and had it down pat, so I started coloring my hair with a permanent color (instead of semi-permanent), plus we have gotten into the winter months. I don't know if my hair changed a bit with the hair color, or a combo of things, but I will persevere

Thanks for the tips! I will try them, and continue reading some of the WEN boards

I have tried every variety of WEN ( Started when a friend gave me a sampler set). My hair is shoulder length, not colored, straight. I have tried following all the various methods, and use the recommended amount. The first time, my hair looks great, thick and lots of body. The second wash, there is product buildup, no matter how long I rinse, and if I use Wen for a third time, the product buildup is so bad my hair looks limp and gummy. It simply will not rinse out.

The styling cream does the same thing- can't use that at all. I wish I could figure out how people use Wen exclusively.
