I just bought the foundation stick from Bobbi brown and it does not have an spf. I like it even though I have oily skin. Would like an spf to wear under it preferably a primer. I have researched but there are so many and I have always hated anything with an spf because it is greasy or goopy. Any suggestions?

Chiclet ~ I feel your pain. I cannot and will not wear a separate SPF lotion. It makes my oily skin too greasy. So I try to buy foundations and primers with SPF. I know everyone's complexion is different so what works on me may not work for you.

I've used CG's AquaSmooth foundation for at least 20 years. It has either 15 or 20 SPF (I can't remember which) in it. Not a high percentage, but enough for me. It also curbs some of the oil so my skin doesn't get as greasy during the day.

Also, I get Mally's primer in the tube, not the jar. Her primer in the tube has 20SPF. It's pricey, but I get it on ebay or Amazon to save money.

I'm 64 -- in my case, oily skin didn't get dryer as I aged. But I do see the benefits of oily skin!

Paula's Choice makes an excellent moisturizer with SPF 30 (all zinc) that is geared towards oily/combination skins. It has a very slight tint that disappears on me but that prevents any whitish cast. It's on sale this month. Here are the details:

Who is this product for?

RESIST Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 is best for combination to oily skin, and also suitable for sensitive, breakout-prone, or rosacea-affected skin. Ideal for those struggling with wrinkles, brown spots, and oily skin plus breakouts.

What makes this product unique?
RESIST Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 is a daytime moisturizer with sunscreen designed for combination to oily skin with signs of aging. Its multi-purpose formula not only protects skin from sun damage, but also fortifies it with potent antioxidants to repair and stimulate collagen production for firmer skin. You will see a more even skin color, fewer visible lines and wrinkles, and the return of a younger healthy-looking glow.

This gentle, mineral-based formula has a sheer tint that works beautifully for all skin tones, whether worn alone or under foundation. An amazingly silky lotion texture leaves a soft matte finish that perfectly preps skin, allowing makeup to apply smoothly and evenly (no primer needed).

Pure, refined zinc oxide provides remarkable broad-spectrum protection without making skin more oily or triggering breakouts. It is perfect for sensitive skin or rosacea and great for use around the eye area. Daily sun protection is crucial for preventing wrinkles and brown spots, while still allowing skin to look fresh, even, and healthy.

This product is 100% fragrance-free.

RESIST Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30

Combination, Oily Skin

Effective for: Anti-Aging, Brown Spots, Enlarged Pores, Extra Sensitive Skin, Redness, Rosacea, Wrinkles

Provides gentle, mineral-based broad-spectrum sun protection

Complexion-enhancing tint means no telltale white cast

Antioxidant-rich formula stimulates collagen production

Shields skin from wrinkles and brown spots

Silky lotion leaves a soft matte finish

Works beautifully under makeup—no need for foundation primer

Excellent for use around the eyes – will not sting

Clinically proven non-irritating

100% fragrance free, no added dyes

No animal testing

View the research and studies showing the benefits of using this daytime moisturizer with sunscreen here.

I use Boscia Oil Free Daily Hydration SPF15-It is light hydration, but controls my oil. It is fine for daily use, but I suppose if you are going to be out you may need more. I also love tarte tinted treatment bb primer with Broad Spectrum SPF30 & I use it as my foundation. It's nice coverage & wears really well on my old/oily skin. No shine, no breakouts.

Both Resist Super-light and Hydralight are great physical SPF moisturizers. Previously I was using PC's Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer, SPF 25. It was too greasy and didn't absorb well on my skin. I have tried dozens of SPF's and have finally found the two I am sticking with, PC's Hydralight Shine-free Daily Mineral Complex and Resist Super-light Daily Wrinkle Defense.

There's only one way to get real sun protection, and it's with a separate sunscreen--a good one that is applied properly.

No makeup, primer or lotion is applied heavily enough to do the job well, and that's right after its applied. Leave it on for awhile, sweat it off, rub it off...whatever, and it might as well not even be there at all.

The worst damage we get is incidental, and it's not that beach trip that will cause the most problems down the road. Sitting by a window, driving a car (UVA rays come in, UVB rays don't), walking out to the mailbox, and it all adds up to a lot of sun. If you're not wearing good sunglasses that cover the entire eye socket, you're doubling the damage.

There's just no way around it, and as oily as my skin is, I slap on the Badger every single day.

It sounds nice in theory, but you still need avobenzone or zinc oxide (13% and up for the best UVA protection).

On 1/18/2014 blahblahvampemerblah said:

Great points!

I have never been a Paulas Choice fan but ordered the super light daily defense 30spf. I hope it works. Thanks for all your replies. It helps to have suggestions.

I really like the Bare Minerals moisturizer with spf. Make-up with spf in it really photographs weirdly.

I have recently started using Tarte's tinted BB primer with SPF. It works great on my oily skin and I don't even need foundation over it, although I do use Tarte's Amazonian clay loose powder on top. Gives me flawless coverage.
