Thorough is a good choice of words. Be prepared! When she finished by looking between each one of my toes, I realized YES she has looked at every inch. Make sure you shave and apply your lotion. You do not want to be hairy and scaly

I'm going to visiting the dermatologist soon for the first time. I have definitely done my time in the sun. I'm assuming no face makeup? Anything else I should know or ask?

I don't wear makeup usually but sometimes I do but yes, if it is your first visit, I would suggest no makeup so he/she can get a good idea how your skin looks. I always have a full body mole and skin cancer check done (well, once a year).

Just be honest and give as much information as you can and let them know what your skincare concerns are and what you'd like help with. If they give you an Rx, ask them what it is for and how to use it, especially in combination with your other medications or skincare. Write down what products you use so they will be aware of any contraindications. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions!

Good luck!

Her eyes nearly popped out of her head. She had it off in minutes. But, it gave her nightmares that it was nearly missed.

Be prepared to be more naked than at the gyn. They need to see everything on the outside. With a magnifying glass. They make take pictures, too, to be able to compare any changes on your skin. They should look at your scalp, too.

It's a good thing!

Are you going to a derm who specializes in skin care/ anti-aging or in the more medical side of things? Sometimes that can make a difference depending on what you are going for/your expectations.

I suggest going without makeup, taking a list of your current medications, (both OTC and prescription) and a list of your concerns.

I have the annual mole/skin cancer check done. Be prepared, they look everywhere.

Liz: since he seems more medical, the chances of him giving beauty advice may be lacking. He is probably not the type of derm who will look at your skin care regimen and say that has great ingredients, etc.

I'm ok with the lack of beauty advice. I'd probably have to go out of state for that, not a lot of options. I'll apply lots of lotion.
