Get trims or bite the bullet & leave it be untill it's long enough for a trim not to turn into a short cut..I can't afford an expensive salon right now so after many failed attempts im simply fighting the urge to cut at all..winter seemed like the best time...

I had to grow mine out from chemo-no wig (hot and itchy) and I just bit the bullet, used headbands and am close to being able to put into a ponytail (short). I want to wear a ponytail this summer for the heat.

It is best to get a trim every once in a while to give it new shape and form. When I was younger that is what I always did (I loved changing my styles quite often).

A year and a half ago, my hair was boy short. I fell in love with Emma Watson's short haircut and just had to have my hair cut like hers. The one thing I didn't do, was have my ears completely " cut out". I could always tuck the little triangular side burn behind my ears to to speak. I finally decided to let it grow back out and what I did was focus on letting the front and sides closest to the face grow out first and then gradually let the back grow out. It didn't take long before I had an inverted bob/stack of sorts. From there I let it all grow, with a bang trim here and there, now finally my hair is grown out to the bottom of my neck not quite to the shoulders. LOL, I'm ready to get it cut of again. Life was sooo much easier with short hair. Good luck!

What's frequent? I'd say get a trim if it's looking ragged or hard to control, but otherwise, let it go. Getting it trimmed frequently is just going to make it take longer to grow out. If you need a trim, get one, but don't get them "frequently" just because.

I agree with getting trims during the growing out process. I went from a very short cut to a below shoulder length style. You have to work the stages of the re-growth. From a Pixie, to a tousled short shag, to a graduated bob to a longer shag.

Layers were my friend and still are. I have thick, curly hair so I will always have layers. They do make the growing out process less noticeable.

It makes you feel better during the process to have an actual style

I've worn my hair pixie, very, very short for just about my entire adult life. Every winter I threaten myself with growing it out. Well I had my wedding anniversary in late July and didn't like my hair in the pictures I saw. So I haven't gotten an "official" haircut since. I thought it'd be horrible trying to grow out my just about shaved head but it's actually been a breeze. I cut hair anyway so I've been giving myself regular slight trims. Its actually almost a bob now. I tuck it behind my ears and kind-of wear the back flipped up (brush and blow drying). My friends don't even know me with longer hair. So far, I've got nothing but compliments! It takes a bit of courage to grow out a short hairdo but I look at it as an adventure. I love adventures. Good luck with your grow-out!

Get an occasional trim or you could end up with a couple of inches of split ends. Ask me how I know
