I just tried NYC Cosmetics Primer and it worked pretty we for me , even under mineral foundation. I got it at my local Rite Aid and it was $3.99 , plus I have enough points to get 20% off of store merchandise that's not on sale.

Drugstore Under-makeup Primer?

I've found that a makeup primer works well works to prevent my oily skin from getting the "greasies" and ruining my makeup after a few hours. I don't always wear a primer, but will if I need to wear foundation from early morning to evening. (I don't wear makeup every day, and sometimes only wear it for a couple hours at a time)

The primer I love is kind of expensive and I have to order it online, which I hate. I want to buy locally if I can. I'll add that there isn't an Ulta or Sephora within 100 miles of me. Hopefully I can find a great primer at the drugstore. I'd also prefer a primer with SPF.

Any recommendations?

Hi Tototwo,

I use Revlon(I think it's called Photofinish). It looks pink. I love the way it makes my skin feel so smooth before I put my foundation on. I believe it goes for $13

chiefswife

Sorry tototwo, I just saw your thread for the first time. This is going to sound weird, but I highly recommend Monistat Soothing Care Chafing-Relief Powder Gel. It only costs about $7 or $8 for the tube and, IMO, works better than many of the expensive brands. It gives a really nice finish to receive your foundation.

I do know of a good inexpensive primer but it's not drugstore. It's Avon Magix. It's $10 and has an SPF of 20. I have oily skin. I do like this, I just haven't been using it since I switched to Tarte's BB primer. It's $34 but it does act as both primer and foundation. I do like the Avon Magix and Cashmere foundation. It's very creamy like the Tarte BB. I've even mixed the two together (magix primer and Avon Cashmere foundation.) If I couldn't get the Tarte I would go right back to Avon. The coverage is a little better on the Tarte. HTH.

Thanks! I'm taking notes.

I've seen Monostat recommended on this board before. I'm not sure if I want to put something like that on my face....? I'm sure it doesn't have SPF... (snicker).

I used the Magix a few years back and it irritated my skin. What works for some doesn't work for everybody. If we still had an Avon kiosk at the mall, I might try it again.

I'll look for Revlon's Photofinish and Cover Girl.

Appreciate your input

Tototwo, just think of it this way. If the product doesn't have any pharmacological actives and it is made for that area, it must be pretty safe. Safe enough, certainly, for the face. When I finally run out of my last tube of Laura Geller primer, I am buying the Monistat. I have read over and over that it is like Smashbox primer, and I like the Smashbox primer better than the Laura Geller product.

Re: Monistat

I've done a little research online and read reviews on 2 sites that sell it. It runs about half and half between ladies who use it for its intended purpose and those who use it as a primer. All raves, by the way, no matter which part of the body they apply it.

But still, I have to wonder... who was the first woman who put in on her face and why? Was it one of those oopsies where she grabbed the tube of Monostat thinking it was a tube of Spackle? Or did she do it on purpose?
