I've heard him say a couple of times that he "just can't wrap his head around the idea of a hairspray", even though he gets a lot of requests for one. The VTS is plenty of hold for me, so I don't need one myself.

I kind of thought the volumizing treatment spray was WEN's version of hairspray.

The Volumizing Treatment Spray is the WEN version of a hairspray. To make something more like a traditional hairspray would likely require ingredients that would dry the hair and are contrary to Chaz' philosophy.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, it makes sense that it would be contrary to his principles because he likes a soft, natural look.
Just yesterday, it was so windy here, I felt like I needed a hairspray to keep my hair in place. However, I am a dinosaur when it comes to my hair and I need to get with the newer ways of approaching good hair care.
Once again, thank you for the replies. I love the 613 mousse and it gives incredible shine.

It was windy here yesterday, too...and I got caught in it! To my surprise, the VTS held just fine (first time in windy conditions). It was hard for me to give up my hairspray, too, but the VTS is great.

Do you ladies use the VTS as the last step once you have styled (just as you would a hairspray)? A finisher?
I have used it on my crown (after cleansing, hair very wet) to try and get lift but received better results using the mousse.I have also used it on the underneath of my hair to aim for volume but honestly got better results just using lavender CC!
I am not quite sure what to do w/ my VTS. Any suggestions??? TIA!!

I use it as Chaz instructs. After my final rinse, I apply my leave-in CC. Then I'll mix about a pump of Styling Cream and 5-6 spritzes of Volumizing Treatment Spray, in my palm, and distribute/finger comb/squeeze it through my wet hair, starting at the bottom-back and working upward. If you are spraying it directly on your crown, without starting at the bottom and working up, it's very likely you are getting too much product in that area. even if you aren't using the Styling Creme, you're better off doing your spritzes in your hand, rubbing hands together, and distributing that way. Chaz always says more CC is better than not enough, but the opposite is true with the styling products, less is better than too much. If you really want to be able to spray the VTS, I'd suggest putting your head down and flipping your hair over then do 5-6 spritzes and squeeze it in. Don't keep spraying more, thinking you'll get more volume.

Yes, this is exactly how I use the volumizer, and the only way I use it. I have long hair and always wear it up. When I go out I want to keep the stray hairs at bay and have always used some sort of hair spray for this. Normally my hair would be stiff and sticky and hard to comb through when I took my hair down, but with the volumizer I can't even tell I've put any type of holding product in my hair. And I use a lot of it (my choice--you don't really need a whole lot to achieve hold). I spray it wherever I want hold, just as you would a traditional hair spray. Other than the spray pump instead of a pressurized can, I can find no difference in hold between it and spray only designed to hold. That, and it doesn't leave my hair a sticky mess! I love it; I'm so glad someone invented something like this.

Vermint, I am going to try the VTS. It sounds just like what I am looking for. Thank you so much for the suggestion.
