Smudging your home with sage...

Started 1389031032.98 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1389458591.93 by JustJules

I'm thinking about smudging or saging my home, the purification ritual to cleanse your home of negative energy and bring in good vibes and positive energy. 2013 was full of bad energy for us, lots of illness and loss. Even 2014 hasn't started out well with being sick with the flu. I have been thinking about doing a sage on the house for a long time and have done some research about the ritual and how it should be properly performed to be effective. I've never done a saging ceremony myself, but have had clients that smudged their homes when they were selling them to get rid of the negative energy and help the home sell, and they seemed to think it worked. I'm not selling our house, just feel surrounded by a "dark cloud", it's hard to explain, but I think the house definitely is in need of a fresh atmosphere and positive energy.

Curious from those of you that have performed a saging on your home, or know people that have, any special tips or advice? Also, did it really work? Did you feel a lightening or change in the energy of your space? Thanks in advance.

I think you could smudge your house with anything and if it made you feel better so be it. It is not the sage... it is all in your head.

It sounds like voodoo to me but whatever floats your boat.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I couldn't get past the smell for I don't like sage but it will be interesting to see your replies.

The other day I . . . uh, no, that wasn't me.

Thanks, can always count on you for an uplifting response.

Stormy, I didn't ask for opinions about saging, I asked for information from people that have done it or are familiar with it. Your opinion about it does me no good whatsoever.

by all in your head, I mean that if you put out positive vibs into the environment... you will bring in positive. I think the sage is just a tool to doing that. Anyway, it does smell nice AND since it has been done for centuries.... there must be SOMETHING to it!

I've heard that a lot of people "cleanse" their homes with sage. Haven't known anyone that did it, but why not? Couldn't hurt, and we all need "good" energy.

I'm not sarcastic. I'm just intelligent beyond your understanding.
I love how in scary movies the person yells out "Hello?" As if the killer is going to be like, "Yeah, I'm in the kitchen, want a sandwich?"

Not part of my belied system but there is nothing wrong with it imo. Regardless, wouldn't be an option in my home with DH's asthma.

I hear what you are saying. One could smudge their home with dried rosemary, and it would accomplish the same thing. As long as the person is thinking positive thoughts, it doesn't really matter what tool they are using.

As for me, the smell of burnt sage is awful. Maybe that's why the "bad" spirits leave. They can't stand the stink!{#emotions_dlg.lol}

And yes, I have tried using sage to "cleanse" my home. I didn't notice any change of "good energy" vs. "bad energy".

I'm all out of sage. Will it work with oregano? {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I never heard of this but I know what you mean about feeling like being surrounded by a dark cloud.

Wish I was more help. Maybe a shout out to some of our Native American heritage posters could help? Like Blackbirdraven?

I do have a bunch of dried basil from the garden.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Sorry, Jules. I'm no help. Your dad doesn't have asthma or anything, does he? I mentioned that because my DH does and is very sensitive to anything "smoky".

No pot in this household either.Wink

When we first moved in our house, we had our priest come and bless the house. Blessing it with a beautiful prayer used and sprinkling with Holy Water wards off any evil.

Thanks Scottie, maybe Raven will have some suggestions. In my research I discovered that Native Americans use white sage for cleansing rituals.

To answer you bikerbabe, no my dad doesn't have any asthma or respiratory issues. Well he does right now because I gave him a horrible congested cough, but this isn't something I would do until after we are both feeling better anyway.

If you have ever watched Long Island Medium she does Saging on homes for people. She states it gets rid of negative spirit. Try it, what have you got to lose. I'm looking into it also. Good Luck!!

I'm a Christian by faith, and I suppose I could ask our pastor to come bless the home. My dad and I say prayers all the time. Saging isn't some voodoo ceremony or occult ritual. I see it as a spiritual, sort of holistic approach to cleansing bad or old stale energy out, and encouraging positive to come in.

The link I shared seemed full of info. I was raised Catholic and Jewish I see nothing wrong with Saging. Good Luck.

Thanks phluphy, that's kind of what I was thinking too... what's there to lose? I guess you are supposed to move through the house in a clockwise direction. With my luck I would go the opposite direction and end up inviting more bad energy inside. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} Good luck if you give it a try.

Yeah, if I still lived in Colorado that's what I could use. I guess by the time I was done I wouldn't care if there was good or bad energy in the house.

Jules, I guess I am too much of a cynic because I just can't put any faith in the thought that inanimate objects hold some mystical power.

The other day I . . . uh, no, that wasn't me.

No negativity from me on the saging of the house. However, I too would be inclined to invite my pastor over for a visit, and discuss my feelings openly, in order to receive spiritual guidance regarding the dark cloud feeling and negative energy in the house. Wishing you better days ahead Jules.
