Length of toenails

Started 1271679846.957 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1271933220.13 by Grade1Teach

How long are your toenails supposed to be?   I have always kept mine relatively short (not like I bite them--just not extending much past the nail bed) , but I very often see women with lovely pedicures who kind of keep their toenails longer...almost the equivalent of what I'd call a short, "sporty length" fingernail...I always think that must be uncomfortable in shoes...

So how long are they supposed to be?

I just wanted to add--I even see some of the QVC models with "long" toenails.

Mine are always very short also.....I do not know if we have a set rule as to how long they should or should not be.

Short and cut straight across.

I think long toenails look nasty.

Very short...I don't like the "talons look" on my toes...

I know...makes me want to throw up.  Especially when women try to use the french manicure look on the toenails as if they were fingernails with long toenails.  Ick is right  Just turns my stomach.  Cut those toenails!

In the winter time anything goes.  In the summer I stay in sandals and let mine grow right to the edge of the nail bed.  It just looks nicer for me, I think.  I don't let them grow longer though because I can't stand the feeling of my toenails rubbing against the sheets.  oooohh!  LOL

IMO toenails should not extend beyond your toes.

....I suppose if you need to transport a bunny to a rooftop....long toenails would be the way to go.

I keep mine fairly short also. I think toenails longer than someone's toe looks scary. It looks like fingers then.

I don't think I have ever seen a woman deliberately have long toenails. I keep mine with a short in very light pink.

I have seen plenty toenails long due to neglect. Very gross... eww.

you mad bro?

Keep mine short, also can not stand the long toenails.  And on men, long fingernails and toenails are just plain gross, however, I see more and more men w/ long fingernails - come on guys, takes just a few minutes w/ the nail clipper!  Thank God my husband is meticulous about that stuff and keeps his nails very well groomed!

One thing I don't like is when the nails are cut down below the skin line.  I have a pedicure and they always want to cut the nails really short and I think that looks awful.  I prefer the nail to just reach a little bit past the top of my toe.  It looks nice that way, especially in sandals.  Nothing looks worse than stubby toes with very short nails.

Actually I do think that long, snaggly nails, especially with dirt underneath looks a lot worse.

But I agree that very stubby nails look bad too and you shouldn't have them too short because you can get an ingrown toenail that way.

You all are so funny!  Thanks for the laughs.

I like my toe nails cut back to the nail bed so that little or no "white part" shows.  I agree long toe nails are gross.  My neighbor gets the French manicure on her long toe nails as well.

I prefer mine on the shorter side.  I am always telling the girl who does my pedicures to keep them short.  She has a tendency to only want to file them.

I don't like looking at longer toenails.  It just grosses me out.  I once saw a woman wearing sandals, and her nails were so long that they curved over her toes.  She had airbrushed designs on all of them - that image has stuck with me all these years{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

My sister and I were once at a concert and a woman had long toe nails filed to a point, and then painted

My sister started to snicker, and I elbowed her to stop..I didn't want the lady to know she was being laughed at..I think she felt she was a trend setter or something

It really looked bad

I think that they can be long and well manicured without being dirty and it still looks yuck to me.  I would also agree that if they are cut way back it can look odd as well.  I think most are in agreement that toes look best if they reach just to the top of the toe.

Thanks for ruining my breakfast, briiii!   hahahahahahaha

I agree with all the ladies here - I like them SHORT.  You can see just a little bit of skin over the top of my brightly painted toenails, and they look great.  I'm actually jealous of girls that have toenails that are naturally very very short - in other words, there is a lot of skin showing above the tip of their big toenail.  Do you know what I mean? I'm not sure if I'm making sense...

Hmmmm...speaking of toes...what do you all think of 'toe cleavage' showing in your shoes? I used to think 'ewww!' but now I'm not so sure?
