Hi, everyone!

I hope you all had a terrific Memorial Day weekend. The weather in my area was GORGEOUS…a perfect 10 kind of weekend. So my family and I spent a lot of time in the great outdoors. We even had time to go “down the shore” as we say here and hit the boardwalk on Sunday night.

For those of you who don’t know, the beach is my happy place. Since I grew up in Southern California, the shore has always been a part of my life and it still is…even though I’m now swimming in a different ocean! So I love beachy decorations, colors, and décor, which is why, when I saw DIY jute trivets on Pinterest, I decided to make my own place mats!

Jute Place Mats

Here’s what you’ll need to make these:

  • Newspaper

  • Large roll of thick jute twine

  • Hot glue gun

  • Ruler

  • Heavy book(s)

And here’s what I did:

Spread old newspapers over a flat work surface. Then, wind the jute in a tight circle and gradually add glue as the circle becomes larger and larger. Make sure to keep pressing the jute down flat. I used the ruler to make sure each mat measured 12” inches. Then, I put a heavy book on each mat to flatten it out.

My family will get the most use out of the place mats, but you can also make trivets, coasters, or even a decorative centerpiece on your table…something like a charger. Then you could put a floral centerpiece, Valerie's Mercury Glass Seashell, a hurricane with a candle and shells—anything—on top.

Be sure you use these when you entertain…you’re bound to get compliments and guests will be SO impressed that you made them. I’ll see you soon!
