OK, Medical People, I have a Question

I ran into a friend this past Monday or Tuesday evening whom I always greet with a kiss. During the conversation, I asked him how his health has been, and he informed me that his doctors told him that he has pneumonia - the contagious kind! Well, by Wednesday night, I was starting to feel like I was coming down with something. By Thursday morning, I had such a headache that I felt my head might explode. This all started with a sore throat that came back with a vengence a day after it disappeared. Now my symptoms are a croupy cough and congestion. At least I feel well enough to go to work tomorrow. These are the same symptoms I always get when I get sick.

My question is: Could bacterial pneumonia in someone else manifest itself as a terrible cold in me? Or does pneumonia get passed on as pneumonia? Of course, I am only assuming that this person was the culprit, but I could have picked up a bug on the bus or at work just as easily.

Thanks!

P.S. I won't be kissing anyone anytime soon.
