I make a pot of chili and a pot of any chicken soup.
Works for our family.
I find this works well also. I am on Coumadin so can not use anything herbal.

What's the best remedy for cough and congestion?
Thank you.
Hi again, @house_cat,
Something else that you can try to ease congestion, is to let the warm water from your shower gently run on your head to try and loosen up your sinuses while taking a shower.
I like to do this when I'm also not feeling well.
Also adding--you want to stay as hydrated as possible.
Also, try and sit up or prop yourself up or walk around too when you can so that you give everything a chance to try and drain.

(thread title)
Typical "cough and/or congestion". Drink several glasses of very warm water, with salt several times during the day. That works for me on both of those issues every time.
I also use my "motivator"(a Spirometer) several more times than usual until things clear up. Lots and lots of regular fluids like milk/water/orange juice and a hot cup or 2 of "joe". My home remedy works for me with those minor issues.

Thanks so much, everyone!
I feel bad complaining of a simple cold and sore throat, but they sure can make you feel awful.
I made tea with a slice of lemon, honey and a thin slice of ginger. It seemed to help a lot.

I would not drink Salt water all day! . Gargle maybe for a sore throat but not to drink.
To clear sinuses use a Neti pot or a NeilMed sinus rinse. It flushes all the gunk out.
There is a natural cough remedy Sambucol that is from elderberry. I would think drugstores sell it.
Also, we used Zicam and Airborne with good results.
Otherwise you will have to let it just take it's course.

The remedy that always worked for my girls to calm coughs and break up congestion, was a 2-1 mix of honey and lemon warmed in the microwave and taken by spoonfuls.

I have never heard this one, but someone said yesterday to drink pineapple juice?

Pineapple juice, and dark chocolate. Also at night put on your feet Vicks vapor rub, then a sock over them, you won't have that tickle cough that keeps waking you up.

Vicks Vapor Rub says it all.
