Lately, my my ears hurt when I sleep on either side. It wakes me up. I can't sleep on my back. Anyone have any suggestions? TIA

What hurts? The cartilage or middle/inner ear?
I'm not trying to be snarky, but Google might be a place to start. Look for articles that pertain to the type of problem you are experiencing. Responses you get here in response to a broad question might not be relevant to your issue.

This happens to me too. I think it's wax in my ear & laying on it causes pressure. I tip my head & put a little hydrogen peroxide in my ear. Let it sit for a minute or two then let it drain out onto a few tissues. Clean your ear with a q-tip afterwards. I've found this works for me.

Some mornings I've woken up with the outside of the middle-to-top part of my ears sore.
Found out it was just the weird way(s) I'd been sleeping.
If it's the inner part of your ears that hurt, you can always check with your regular doc or an otolaryngologist (ears/nose/throat) specialist.

I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes to go to the bathroom and then it takes me awhile to go back to sleep. This is due to the pain I have from my ears. I realized it was coming from the cartilage part of my ears. At my semi annual appt with my Dermo, she said that I was correct. There is nothing I can do about it. One side is worse than the other. I also tried sleeping on my back not only for that reason but I can't do it either. I hope this might help you.

It's the cartiledge of both ears. Very painful. I did Google it and found some rather far-fetched solutions--pillows with a hole in the middle. A lot of people have this I found. Just thought someone might have discovered a creative solution!

A couple of weeks ago I had impacted ear wax removed.
I had no idea!
earlier symptoms: ringing in ears, intermittent pain that woke me up maybe for a month. I kept thinking each was an isolated incident and dismissed it.
Finally so extremely dizzy could not walk. My family demanded that I see a doctor.
The doctor used perioxide and warm water to flush it out.

I've had this happen a couple of times. I think it is just how you lay on the pillow. I have had the earring posts cause pain but usually short lived once I move. Wish I could help!

I had that problem badly! It didn't only hurt when I slept, but using the phone on that side or touching it while doing my hair sent me off the ground! I finally saw an ENT who told me it was arthritis! No treatment, just went away! I tried keeping the ear from touching anything. I got a large piece of memory foam to sleep on! It just went away by itself!

Wow! Arthritis! I should have known it had something to do with growing old!!! My ears hurt when I talk on the phone, too! Thank you for your post!!!
