I started using WEN in June.   I immediately noticed more hair loss-- in my shower drain & on my clothes.

Previously, I was using another brand of cleansing conditioner that was adequate with no hair loss.

One of the reasons I tried WEN is because I have a dry scalp & nothing I've used previously helped, even massaging hair oil into my scalp before bedtime.   With WEN I no longer have the dry scalp--THANKS CHAZ.    But the jury is still out on the hair loss.   it's annoying but as far as my hair thinning, I don't see it.

I have very thick, coarse, dry, naturally curly hair. On a normal summer day it's a frizz ball. I do a lot of buns and pony tails. Wen makes my hair feel and look healthy. However I'm losing hair like crazy. I can pull chunks of like 7 or so hairs out. My shower trap catches a lot too. I cleanse like 3 days a week.

Because I have so much hair I can't even notice a difference. But it still makes me wonder? I'm kinda thinking it's unhealthy hair ready to fall out? Is that possible? My hair is hard to brush. Should I use a special one to get rid of it? It bothers me at work if I can feel pieces ready to fall out of my pony tail.

I use Summer Honey Peach before that I used Spring orange blossom. I adore them. Do I need to stop? As I said I have a lot of hair so it's not effecting me too negatively.

I have used WEN for 7+ years.  I have had problems with  my scalp and hair all my life.  It was splitting and breaking all the time.  I was a very healthy child and young woman.  After my second child the doctor did tests and told me that my thyroid was very interactive and my metabolism had changed.   I was put on a Rx for my thyroid.  My hair continued to have problems although my overall health was now back to very good. After much thought I decided to try the WEN products.  To date I am still extremely pleased with my "new" hair.  My stylist of over 25 years can't believe the change in my hair.  She said it is the best it has ever been and I agree.  Early on when we first met we discussed my hair loss during my daily brushing.  She told me that the average person sheds 80 to100 strands of hair daily.  I tried most all of the "best" products for my hair and scalp.  None worked for me.  I had given in to short hair and perms to be presentable to go to the office each day.  After WEN my hair is down to my shoulder blades and healthy as is my scalp.  About every 8 to 10 weeks she cuts off about 3inches off.  I still shed but not nearly as much.  I now have Lupus, thus more meds.   At 71 I do not expect to have hair like the young models but I get many compliments and people do not believe my age.  At one place I had to show ID to get a senior discount.  Make sure you are as healthy as you think you are.   Sometimes you have to insist on tests when in doubt.  We are not all textbook patients.   It took me 3 years of insisting to get a referral to a specialist out of town.  He gave the devil for not coming sooner as I did not have to be this bad.  His simple blood tests that covered extra showed I have Lupus.  I am so lucky to have found him.  With proper meds I am doing well and my general health is good.   Because of my health, meds and age I will continue to lose some hair as we all do daily.  Out with the old hair and in with the new.  We laugh because I have new hair growing in with the old.  I never knew the "life span of standoffs hair.  Love my WEN.

Drythe,. Thank you.  I mentioned it all mainly because sometimes we do not ask enough questions if our primary care physician.  I did ask at each visit but did not push when I felt he was treating me as a textbook case.  I wasted 3 years before I dared demand to see a specialist.  My nudge came from a stranger at a regular visit to my fitness center.  She noticed my finger tips and asked who was caring for my arthritis.  When I said I was told it was not bad enough to be referred she came in 2 days later with a name and number.  She was an angel for me.  Because of her I now know I also have lupus.  I see her same specialist every 4 months.  We monitor everything and I see my eye doc every 6 months tlo make sure my meds are not hurting my sight.  Modern medicine is great and new treatments and meds come out more frequently than we know.  I  now have doctors who listen without judging.  I am no longer made to feel like I am a hypo.  They said to make sure that I inform them of any changes and they will let me know if it is OK.   There are many types of lupus and arthritis so it is OK to read but ask questions before I get concerned.  People have different symptoms and react to different drugs.  We should be treated as individuals.   My pharmacist also notifies me as generics are coming so I can let my docs know.  It is amazing to know that I have this support.  All is going good so I do not have to call outside visits.  I just want women to stick up for themselves.  Everything is not our age, menopause, anxiety, etc.

@jaxs mom I have had a similar experience. I have used Wen exclusively for almost 10 years and I feel like I lose a ton of hair in the shower and recently got a bit alarmed by it. However, the biggest thing that I think contributes to it is the lack of breakage. Every hair is full length and because of that, I think the hairs don't fall out as easily during normal activities. I also do not brush my hair because it is curly so I think that the normal shredded hairs only come loose during cleansing.

It is possible to be around something for a long time without apparent ill effects, and have it all of a sudden you become sensitive to it. It's not really sudden, and it doesn't mean there's any thing wrong with the product, though. It's more like there's a component in it that "bioaccummulates" for a long time, and only becomes a problem when it gets to a certain level. Like water dripping into a barrel--no problem for a long time, and "suddenly" a drop is one too many and the barrel overflows.

I think there's someting in at least some of the Wen formulas that works like that for me. I used it exclusively for several years and loved it--my hair was in really good shape. Then it started thinning. Was it Wen? Not sure. I switched to Peter Thomas Roth's shampoo and conditioner, and it improved. I tried my usual Wen Lavender again, and it was immediately worse. Now I occasionally use Wen spring Gardenia only as a conditioner after washing with PTR, and never use the menthol-ish ones like Lavender at all.  I probably won't replace my Wen. Sad, really, because I did enjoy using it, but unlike some of you, I don't have thick hair and can't afford to lose more.

I'd never think of suing Wen because I have a sensitivity to one of their ingredients. I developed a sensitivity to ammonia, too, after being overexposed, but I don't "blame" the manufacturere of the ammonia. I just avoid being around it.

My question for all you who are still using Wen successfully: I haven't tried any of the formulas introduced for the last couple of years--are any especially gentle and worth me tryhing again?

I have been using Wen Summer Honey Peach since May of this year. I always had normal hair loss in the shower before Wen. I now have less hair loss. I do use it a little differently.  I use other brands of shampoo and use Wenn as a conditioner that I rinse out. This works for me. I have very shiny manageable hair now. :smileyvery-happy:

Normal hair shedding is okay.....but, I would not use this product if you are losing the hair you say you are losing O/P. It is only going to get worse with time not better. I read on line he uses menthol in his products or some of them, that can cause  problems for some people. Also read on some threads here that there has been problems with clogging drains with all the hair loss. Just a few reasons I do not use these products.

You have thick, naturally curly, dry and frizzy hair.. your answer could be right there. Its dry. If you try to brush or comb thick, naturally curly and dry hair without moisture it will break and shed.

I learned several lessons about naturally curly hair:

First, comb from the ends up always. If you attempt to comb or brush your dry hair from the middle your will cause your curls to snag and break.

Second, never comb or style your curls completly dry. I always spray my hair with water (oil mixed in) or RTM before styling.

Third, normal shedding also doesnt happen like normal with us curlies. Why? because the shed hair just sits somewhere in your curls instead of falling out completely. So when you do any grooming, rubbing or cleansing of your hair they become free and it seems you have far more breakage than you should.

Finally, sleeping on satin! A satin pillowcase or scarf helps reduce breakage.

I would work on adding moisture and careful grooming to see if thats the issue. This also includes healthy fats in your diet. A lot of people forget that our diets can and will effect our hair.

If that doesnt resolve the issue, start exploring other factors. Stress, medication, illness and possible allergies.

I hope it gets better for you!

@KaySD If you think you have a sensitivity to menthol, try the Wen Kids line.
