I thought that was strange too.  He talked about aliances but the twins and grossman are a group of three.

 

I think they waited too long maybe to get them out.  If they could make the other's feel more secure they could still break them up (they have the votes, but soon won't).

 

I agree, John will probably be out next time.  I thought of that the minute he got the CHANCE to come back in.
