Please stop saying Fabrication! And Grabbing Rings by the Stone!

PLEASE show hosts and vendors - Stop using the word fabrication when what you really mean is FABRIC. Fabrication means the overall make of an item. Fabric means just that - the fabric of which the item is made.

Plus, when showing jewelry rings are NEVER to be put on or taken off with one of your fingers on the stone or gem in the ring. You hold the ring by the sides of the shank. This is Jewellery Sales 101.

I am surprised I hear and see constantly these basic No No's on national TV.

Language is a living, breathing thing whether or not we like it....  if it's used in the wrong way long enough, it will be included in Webster's as another usage/spelling or pronunciation.

A good example is the slang for whore... Ho.  It's only been around 30 or so years and has now been included in Webster's as bonafide slang for the word.  Who would have thought?.

Grates on my nerves too....

@Q4uYou are so right -  and aren't we glad language changes as it's used.

I suppose if it's all we had all our lives, Shakespeare's English would be fine, but think of how much the world has changed in the 500 years since he wrote!  We need language to move with the times, too.

Maybe consider giving a training session to the hosts on QVC.

In my day my mother would ask if we were fabricating our story.  I quess that might put my childhood in the stone ages with the Flintstones.

"This beautiful fabric feels soft and has a tight weave."

"This beautiful fabric feels soft and has a tight weave and we can thank the fabrication for it's ultimate outcome."

Fabric is a related term of fabrication.

They are both nouns.

Fabric is structure.

Fabrication is the act of constructing, manufacturing, fabricating.

I believe thqt somewhere someone along the line misconstrued the two and defined the fabric as a fabrication and it just stuck.... Woman Happy
