Re: NFL New and Notes for March 2022!!!

There's a lot of debate going on about how much Mitchell Trubisky is worth. He's become the top-rated free agent QB somehow. Some are saying he'll get somewhere between $10 and $20 million in free agency. Gardner Minshew is a $2.54 million guy for 2022 and is probably better than Trubisky. If a team comes calling for him the Eagles could move him. It would probably take a third-round pick or higher, but he could be a pretty good option for a team in dire need.

Re: NFL New and Notes for March 2022!!!

The Cowboys have realized they're overpaying Demarcus Lawrence (Well, duh!) and have asked him to take a pay cut. He's refused. (Well, duh again!) So, with him due to have a $27 million cap hit or take a $19 million hit in the dead cap by cutting him, the Cowboys have to decide what to do. Keep him and essentially get to use him for a year for the $8 million difference in the cap (pretty cheap for a DE in the NFL) or cut him loose and use that $8 million elsewhere and draft a kid to replace him. In the last three years, he's had 5 sacks, 6.5 sacks, and just three sacks last year. Not overly impressive stats. That makes trading him hard and most teams prefer not to overpay players.

With lots of free agents of their own (24) still unsigned, and Amari Cooper likely headed out the door, and now Demarcus Lawrence possibly being kicked to the curb, the 2022 Cowboys could look a whole lot different. If they lose every free agent (unlikely but you never know) and cut Cooper and Lawrence, that's 26 new players on the 53-man roster. That's kind of a lot of change.

They're said to want to keep Randy Gregory (six sacks in 2021) over Demarcus Lawrence. There could be quite a bidding war for Gregory though, so that could complicate matters. They could use the franchise tag on Gregory, but there's chatter they'll franchise tag Dalton Schultz instead. The franchise tag for a tight end should be around $11 million and a fair market value for him is said to be around $12 million, so that makes some sense for them. The franchise tag value for Gregory would be around $17.5 million. Is he worth that much? Eh, probably not.

The Cowboys need a GM who doesn't let half the team reach free agency each year. That just makes life a lot harder than it needs to be.

Re: NFL New and Notes for March 2022!!!

Joe Buck is undecided about his future. ESPN wants to hire him as commentator for MNF so he can stay partnered with Troy Aikman. Buck is thinking about the move; he has said that he would miss working with Aikman.

Brians Griese has left ESPN and will work as quarterback coach for the 49ers. Louis Riddick was interviewed for the Steelers' GM position, but wasn't hired yet. I haven't heard news about the third commentator on MNF, Steve Levy, or what's up with him.

Aaron Rogers will announce his plans Tuesday, March 8, which is the deadline for franchise tags. He probably wants to see what the Packers will do about Davante Adams first, then decide. There is a chance they will apply the franchise tag to Adams, though it's not yet official.

The Packers will tag Davante Adams. The tag price is expected to be between $18.5-$20 million. That's less than they'd have to pay him in a long-term deal. If he's not the best wide receiver in the league, he's in that category. If they let him go to free agency he'd likely land somewhere between $22-$25 million a year. Maybe more. If they can't work out a long-term deal they'll tag him. You can't afford to lose a guy like him.

TE Jack Doyle retired after nine seasons with the Colts. There is a need for the TE position now. Good luck to Doyle in his retirement!

Calvin Ridley has been suspended the 2022 season for betting on games. He left the game temporarily to focus on his wellbeing, and there wasn't any news on his return. Now he won't be available to play until 2023. Strange how the NFL is connected to sports betting sites like Fanduel and Draftkings, but takes action when a player does the same.

If the Colts keep Wentz, then Zach Ertz makes sense as a replacement TE.

Don't count Jimmy Garoppolo out.   Players have shoulder surgery all the time.

He's one tough dude.   His record shows that.  Not many players would have been as professional as he was all last season having to welcome his replacement.   Trey Lance said that Jimmy is one of the best people he ever met.

Any team would be proud and glad to have Jimmy as QB.  He's got more character and professionalism than most NFL players.  He's a proven leader.  And... the 49ers players adore him and hate to see him leave.

What did the NFL think would happen when they opened the league up to gambling.....and the NFL says they warn players and NFL personnel not to engage in gambling....yah and they warn them about performance enhancing drugs, conduct off the field, but players disobey these warnings, so it should be no surprise that there are going to be players that try to get away with gambling...but the NFL couldnt resist all the additional money they'd get.....in 2021 the NFL made 270 million from sports betting and gambling...and teams are making individual deals with casinos like Ceasars and naming rights, BETMGM and others for stadium betting lounges....But the NFL opened that door.....which to me could lead to "throwing games" etc...

Given the choice Id take Minshew over Trub....

I was hoping my Washington team would get Jimmy G but leary over the shoulder surgery.....
