What to do for cigarette smell in leather handbags?

I have just been gifted with 12 leather bags from my neighbor. She passed them on from a friend who was moving to Las Vegas and was downsizing. The reason she didn't keep them is because they reek of cigarette smoke. In the past I have dealt with odors by leaving the item out on a covered deck in freezing weather for weeks and weeks. Now that the weather is warming up, that isn't going to work.
