@butterfly123 - I have some older Birkenstocks with the backstraps. I climbed for a little over a mile wearing them about 3 years ago, and my feet were fine! I think they've always had a few styles like this in the line, but they never did have that many. I also have a pair of "shoe" Birkenstocks from way back. 

 

They were made in Spain. I still really like them.

I checked Zulily the other day. The only adult shoe/sandal they had was the EVA Madrid. I don't care for sandals made out ouf that hot plastic. My feet sweat too much.
