Hi ladies, Since I am now retired and just cook very little I look for easy recipes.

Anyone care to share simple 5 ingredient or less recipes?

Re: Five ingredients and under

I have 3 cookbooks that are, 2 that are 5 or less and 1 that is 4 or less. I bought them at a local thrift store. They have all kinds of cookbooks for almost nothing.

I don't cook much now, but check your Amazon listing for the Gooseberry Patch book called "5 ingredients or less" something like that!. In fact, at the library you might find some cookbooks on that. Now's your chance to explore.

hey happygolf--are you a Pinterest fan? Theres a lot there for what you want. I am retired too but am suffering with hand issues from chemo 4 years ago, so it's really hard to do much chopping and prep work like I did before. So thats how I cook---5 or 6 ingredients and no more. Have a few good recipes but would like alot more. Maybe will go to the library first to find cookbooks.

Re: Five ingredients and under

I live alone & don't care to cook.     One of my favorite meals is a loaded baked potato.    I cook the potato in my  microwave then top it with whatever I have & love--butter, sour cream, bacon or other chopped protein.   I like BBQ pork or chicken.  I don't prepare it myself, I get take out BBQ or there are also some good grocery store products.   I have also purchased a soft taco supreme, got rid of the soft tortilla & put the filling on my potato.

Just think about what you like to eat & build from there.

Rotisserie chicken & sides.  Tuna-macaroni salad.   Be creative

Great idea!!

This has SIX ingredients, but it is one of our faves. My Aunt made this in the 60's when I was growing up. It sounds like Baked Beans, but it isn't as sweet like they are. I'll try to find more!

Meal-In-A-Frypan

                                                   (Wen I make 1 1/2 recipe)

1 lb ground beef                        OR   1 ½ lb ground beef

2 Tbsp oil                                  OR   3 Tbsp oil *I use olive oil

2 Tbsp chopped onion              OR   3 Tbsp chopped onion

1 1-lb can whole tomatoes        OR   2 diced/sliced/can be stewed

2 Tbsp prepared mustard          OR   3 Tbsp prepared mustard

3 Tbsp molasses                       OR   4 Tbsp molasses

  1. Brown beef in hot oil; drain.
  2. Stir in onion *I add onion after beef begins to brown, to cook more.
  3. Mix in remaining ingredients.
  4. Bring mixture to low boil on medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  5. Cover; reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

(*I simmer about 45 minutes to ensure onions are cooked well.)

**Mustard and molasses may be added to suit your taste.

This recipe is very forgiving – you may add more beans/meat, etc…or less….

ENJOY!

Re: Five ingredients and under

I'm breaking the rule twice in a row (so far!) Six ingredients, but just don't count the dab of butter:  ha!

Here's another recipe my daughter used to like to make when she was in college and out on her own:

Swiss Chicken and Dressing

6 boneless skinless chicken breasts

6 slices Swiss cheese

1 can Cream of Chicken soup

½ soup can white wine (may use cooking wine)

1 package seasoned stuffing mix

a little butter or margarine

Butter 9” x13” baking pan.

Place chicken breasts in pan.  Put a slice of cheese on top of each piece of chicken.

Mix soup and wine together; pour over top of chicken.

Sprinkle stuffing mix (prepared or not prepared-as you desire) over everything.

Dot with butter or margarine.

Bake at 350 for 1 ½ hours.

Enjoy!!
