Yesterday a man and a dog the size of a horse appeared at our door. I noticed the large dog was a brindle (?) color pure bred Great Dane and she was gorgeous. The man was inquiring if the dog was ours. Apparently the dog was a stray and had no collar, no tags. No we do not have a dog and the man said he would keep looking for an owner and that hopefully the dog was chipped if he had to inquire with animal control..

My heart broke really as I hoped the dog would be returned to the owner or find a home if strayed. I wanted the dog badly but noticed how powerful she was pulling the man practically off his feet with no effort. I knew the dog would seriously hurt me if I took her in as I am severely disabled and recently fell ......but now my heart is breaking wondering her fate. Sigh I have a real soft spot for dogs and wonder why such a regal animal was let run loose. I guess she got away from someone and I hope they are looking for her. I dont know the man but I think he lives nearby. I hope he kept her for the weekend. WOW I never knew how large a Great Dane was until my weekend door knock and heart tug. (smiles)

Re: Such a Beautiful Lost Dog

I am glad that the man was trying so hard to find it's owner. I can't help but think he will make sure the dog is well taken care of.

It is so sad when a dog is seperated from it's owner. The odds are not great about being reunited.

Re: Such a Beautiful Lost Dog

@Stormygirl  you have a big heart. I am sure that either the owners will be found or that the dog will find a wonderful home with someone who sees the dog and wants him like you do.

Trust me, Big Dogs are twice the work if not three times the work of average sized dogs.  We just adopted a large dog and it is so different than just having our one golden.  He is clumsy, in the way( yes tripping on him, stepping over him... he bumps into me all the time... rushes me on the stairs...) So if you are disabled, a large dog like the one you saw would not be a good mix for you.  Plus they need a ton of exercise every day just to calm them down.

I too hope the dog finds a great home or it's own home.  I have a greyhound and she can practically knock me down sometimes when she's excited.  I just LOVE great danes!  They are regal and just the sweetest animals.  Saying prayers for that sweet doggie!

Dogs get aways all the time, I am sure the gentelman will do everything he can to find the owner.  Kind of hard not to miss a Great Dane.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.
