She was named Scout for the girl's character in the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird".  My Scout was a tomboy just like the Scout in the movie. 

@Puzzle Piece   I'm so sorry.  She sounds like she was an amazing companion.  I'm glad you have wonderful memories of her.
