Are you 100% positive he's not a wild bunny?  That would be very unusual.  When you catch him, I would suggest taking him to the shelter and have them evaluate him and tell you.  If he was a pet, you don't need to leave him at the shelter.  If he is wild you can take him home and release him in your yard.
