SealMittedRagdollCat2.jpg

I have raised and loved a variety of cat breeds, all into their 20s (!). I have always been fascinated with the Ragdoll breed and its sweet personality, from attending cat shows.

I'm now ready to adopt. Love to hear from any Ragdoll folk!

Re: Any Ragdoll Cat lovers?

[ Edited ]

I have a Ragdoll boy. To be honest he is strange and not that friendly. I also have a Ragamuffin girl. She is a total sweetheart! Just beautiful, love her. I also have several rescue cats, special needs and senior ones. I think Ragamuffin cats are very friendly, sweet and just beautiful. I would not want another Ragdoll, unless it was a rescue cat. I also think Maine Coon cats are awesome. Have had several thru the years. Big, sweet and lovable dog-like cats!!

I have had cats all of my life and

every single one has been and always

will be a rescue.

Of the many kitties who have blessed

my life with their beautiful purr-sence

and unconditional love I never had a Ragdoll.

However, it's a cat...what's not to love???!!!HeartCat Happy

Information on the breed, from CFA:

Ragdolls are large, laid-back, semi longhaired cats with captivating blue eyes. The Ragdoll is a pointed breed, which means that the body is lighter in color than the points (the face, legs, tail and ears). The Ragdoll cat is carefully bred to produce large affectionate animals in three patterns, two with white (mitted and bi-color) and one with no white (colorpoint). The ideal Ragdoll is a well balanced cat, with no extreme features. Altered males will usually top the scale at 15-20 pounds; females are proportionately smaller and usually weigh between 10-15 pounds at maturity. Ragdolls are slow-maturing, reaching full coat color at two years, and full size and weight at four.

Ragdoll cats tend to be more interested in humans than some breeds of cats. They are known to run to greet you at the door, follow you from room to room, flop on you, sleep with you, and generally choose to be where you are. Many Ragdolls have been taught to come when called and play fetch. They are gentle cats, and usually play without extending their claws. Ragdolls tend to be floor cats, not jumpers. The Ragdoll’s semi long coat is plush and silky, and requires minimal grooming to keep it looking its best.

Rag dolls are very expensive. I know someone who paid $1000 a piece for two. No comment!

All breed cats are about the same, purchased from a breeder. $1200 is common for a show-quality cat, $450 for a pet. Ragdolls are not more expensive.

More delightful, though, than a designer handbag. Or shoes.

I have a friend who has had 2 ragdoll cats and they were not friendly.  They weren't mean or vicious but they would disappear when visitors arrived.  I get the impression they are definately a one person cat.  She got along fine with them, but her husband did have issues with the cats.  Also, they had medical issues and both died at a fairly early age.

Since you're ready to "adopt", I'm guessing that you also mean rescue.

If so, these should help you - and you'll be able to check out the individual kitty's personality beforehand.

They are beautiful to look at but the ones I've known weren't all that welcoming. If you didn't live with them then they didn't want anything to do with you. Also they made me sneeze immediatley even if they weren't in the room. And my eyes would get wet, drippy, runny and red. I could never stay long for a visit at my friend's house. She owns 3 of them.
