My guess he had to take today off rather unexpectedly as he always announces in advance when he won't be in. Perhaps Mary was unable to fill his shift at the last minute.

David announced on Wednesday evening that he would be with Kristen on Saturday and then be on vacation after that show was over.  He did specifically say he would not be there on Sunday.  He has been there so many years (like others) that he probably has built up so many weeks of vacation per year – QVC may have a “use it or lose it” policy like many companies do these days.

He's on vacation. I heard him announce he would be away, so it would seem his days off were planned in advance. I think he said he would be gone Wed., too.

That would sure be better than what we have.
