Re: What do you add to your cole slaw?

The creamiest coleslaw you’ll ever taste. It’s sweet, with just the right amount of jalapeno bite.

Serves 4

· 1 pound shredded green cabbage (see note)

· 1/3 cup thinly sliced green onion, white and green parts

· 1/4 cup shredded carrots

· FOR THE HONEY-JALAPENO DRESSING:

· 2/3 cup mayonnaise

· 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

· 2 tablespoons honey

· 5 teaspoons granulated sugar

· 1 1/2 teaspoons seeded, minced jalapeno

· 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

· 1/4 teaspoon Angel Dust Cajun Seasoning (recipe follows)

· 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

· 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

· 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

· 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

· 1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne

Combine the cabbage, onion, and carrots in a medium-sized bowl and set aside.

To make the dressing, whisk all the ingredients together until combined.

Pour dressing over the cabbage and mix thoroughlc. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until ready to serve.

Note:
Packaged coleslaw mix would work fine here as a substitute for the cabbage.

Heaven on Seven Angel Dust Cajun Seasoning
Makes 1/2 cup

· 3 tablespoons Hungarian paprika

· 1 1/2 tablespoons Spanish paprika

· 5 teaspoons salt

· 1 1/4 teaspoons dried thyme leaves

· 1 1/4 teaspoons dried oregano

· 1 teaspoon ground white pepper

· 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

· 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

· 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

· 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

· 1/8 teaspoon onion powder

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl until thoroughly mixed. Store in an airtight container. The spice mix keeps its best flavor for about two months.

Note:
This recipe could easily be doubled and stored for
future use.

Re: What do you add to your cole slaw?

I made shrimp tacos tonight and added dill and ranch to the bagged cole slaw.

It tasted great!

Re: What do you add to your cole slaw?

Thanks everyone for sharing your versions of cole slaw!

I like to add blue cheese crumbles, cherry tomatoes (halved) and bacon to my slaw. We call it Red, White and Blue Slaw. It gets regular slaw dressing, bottled or homemade--your choice.

Shredded carrots and sometimes diced apple. Some of these sound really good but I think once you add a ton of extra stuff to your cole slaw; it's no long slaw. It's a cabbage salad.

Re: What do you add to your cole slaw?

This past weekend I bought a bag of cole slaw and a bottle of Marie cole slaw dressing. It was a hit and so easy. I made it the night before so it could all blend. I should have made more because the bowl was empty when I went to clean up.

Re: What do you add to your cole slaw?

I like broccoli slaw mixed in with shredded cabbage and pour some sweet and sour dressing over it. Sometimes I add crumbled cooked bacon, black olives, shredded carrots. A sprinkle of chopped walnuts or sunflower seeds is good.

Believe it or not, I remember some cole slaw my mother made in which she put mini marshmallows. I would not add this now as I don't want additional sugar in my diet, but it really made for a nice sweet/tangy taste.

I just add finely shredded carrots and green onions to mine. For the dressing I use a combination of Greek yogurt, mayo, vinegar, stevia for a little sweetness, and a bit of celery seed if I have it on hand.

soonersis, I believe it, used to do that in the fifties, also put some crushed pineapple in it. Sweet, but very good.Smile
