Tater Tot Comeback

[ Edited ]

Maybe "comeback" isn't the right word, since they are probably a staple grade school lunchrooms and homes with kids or grandkids.

My teenaged boys love my Tater Tot Fattyliscious and so do their friends.

I see Tater Tot based dishes on menus when I go out to eat, everywhere from a neighborhood diner to an upscale restaurant.

Lately I've seen them offered as a side in restaurants instead of typical French fries.

AuntG, I've seen them as appetizers and meals at places that sell fois gras!

Hi honeybee!

Yum, 'potato anything' is my motto LOL.

Even better if there's a healthier version of it.

Could you please post your "Tater Tot Fattyliscious" recipe?

Thanks.  8)

Hey Groovy!  The original recipe is in the link in the original post.  It's on the Ore-Ida website.  Here's what I make for my boys:

  • 1 package Ore-Ida® Tater Tots
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 chopped bell peppers
  • 1 Cream Of Chicken Soup with Herbs
  • 1 Cream of Mushroom Soup with Roasted Garlic
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese Softened
  • 1 1/2 cups Sour Cream
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 2 cups Taco Blend Shredded Cheese
  • 6 ounces Stuffing Mix Herb Seasoned
  • 1/4 cup Bacon Grease

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat 13x9 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Place Tater Tots and Onions and peppers into bottom of baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together soup, cream cheese, bacon and sour cream. Spoon evenly over Tater Tot mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Top evenly with stuffing mix and drizzle with bacon grease.
  3. Bake uncovered for 60 to 70 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Well the waffle looks pretty good, as a rule I'm not a big fan of them.   Hubby gets them sometimes.
