I am in the market for a meat thermometer, too.

I have been looking at the ThermoWorks site:  http://www.thermoworks.com/Meat-Poultry-Fish

Prices vary on their products, from $19 +

I may order the Thermapen Mk4.

Great company!  Even the itttle pops ones work great!  Have the Mk4 and love it too!

A leave in one? One with a probe and remote read out? An instant read?

They don't all work the same. I've had some crappy ones. I love my Thermoworks thermometers. I have their thermapen ( which is an instant read, not a leave in) and their ChefAlarm which has a probe and remote read out. Love both.

Do not by Thermoworks products on Amazon though, as they are not an authorized seller and there have been issues with fakes. They have their own website and fast shipping.

We have one of the dot ones that works with a probe with a long metal tiny cable.  You canrun that through the oven door.

Re: Need recommendations for a meat thermometer

They dont all work well, nor do they work the same- if you dont believe me, try taking the temp of a meatloaf  or piece of meat when you take it out of the oven and see if they have different readings..the little instant reads vs my thermo pop and my Pyrex remote and my thermoworks DOT and  I will get diff temps with each..

If you only have one, you may never know, but if you feel your meats are not cooking correctly, buy a second one and check..

My favorite is this OXO. Quick and easy to read.

Re: Need recommendations for a meat thermometer

I have had one by CDN for probably 15 years?  I love it.  My ex-DIL talked me into buying it and I thought it was expensive at the time, but it has been well worth it.  Awesome!

Copy and paste the following in the Amazon search bar.  Mine is the same brand and very similar except mine is an old model.  It's $19.??

Check your grocery store, they are usually hanging by the pots and pans.
