Does any use vanilla bean or make vanilla extract

I bought some madagascar and bourbon vanilla beans and they look great and the company I bought them from beanilla has great reviews. My question is why don't they smell like the traditional vanilla smell I am use to in the pure vanilla extract I buy? I bought some a couple of years ago from another company and they smelled the same as these and I thought they must not have been good but now I am wondering if that is just the way they are. I want the bean to have that traditional vanilla aroma.
