Can I make popovers in a cupcake pan?

I've never made them, but I see that popover pans are shaped differently. Can I use my cupcake pans for them, or do I need to invest in special pans?

Thank you.

I do. I've never owned a proper popover pan. I don't know whether there's some taboo against it, but I have always used a cupcake pan.

Good question! Maybe use 1/2 the batter?

Or maybe....a 2 inch stump is a 'popover', but an 1 inch stump is a 'muffin'? Like pasta...spaghetti, vermicelli, fettucinni are from the same ingredients, but shape dictates their name. Funny how that works!

I'm really wanting a popover pan… I don't want to compromise my pops.

Here's the recipe I'm using, if anyone is interested. It's a video.

Everyone seems to have popover pans....from Williams Sonoma to Target/Walmart.....roughly $20-25.

Ssshhh… holding breath. We have a BBB down the street. DH just went for a walk. He's going to bring one home if they have them in stock.

Wikipedia:

"A popover is a light, hollow roll made from an egg batter similar to that of Yorkshire pudding, typically baked in muffin tins or dedicated popover pans, which have straight-walled sides rather than angled."

I confess, I call mine Yorkshire puddings but I've always thought they were the same thing.

Never tried a cup cake tin. I have pop over tins and they turn out fine. Love them with a roast beef dinner.
