Question about selling gold

For those of you who have sold gold, did you weigh your pieces prior to selling?

I have cleaned out my jewelry drawer and I have a lot of heavy gold (14k) and some 10k gold pcs I would like to sell. Did you remove the stones prior to selling? Someone told me they only took a few pcs and received $1200. I never wear any of the pcs I want to sell so I will not miss them. I would like to know how much to expect but it seems the stones would have to be removed.
