Can anyone tell me about ring sizing?

I know nothing about it - can you take a size 10 ring and size it to a size 6? Does the setting matter? Mostly, it would be a silver ring with a gem on top (not with gems around a band). I know CP does sizing and her prices seem very reasonable. Otherwise, is it expensive to do? Thanks for any advice!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
