Growing a Hyacinth in a glass vase

I was in Wal-Mart and found a hyacinth bulb in a glass vase w/water.

It has some leaves, which seemed to have double in height in a couple of days and it has a flower, not yet open, which will be white.

Is anyone familiar with growing a hyacinth in a glass vase of water? I'm wondering how long the bulb will last.

There were only 2 left and I picked up one and the guy in the store wanted to know what was the attraction. He said people were buying 3 and 4 of them that day.

ETA: Instructions only say to keep it well lit, in a cool room, and keep the vase 75% full of water.
