Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Pepper must be going through a mischievous stage. I can imagine the expression on your face when you saw the tangled yarn, Barbara.

Today started out cool but the temperature reached 90. I think Saturday it should be in the 60's.

We dropped the form off at the urologist's before senior bowling with a request to call when it's complete. I want to mail it back myself. We had insurance forms that needed completed several years ago by a different doctor. The doctor was to send it in but the insurance company never got it. The doctor's office lost the form. Since then I prefer to pick the completed form up.

Linda, I'm glad DH is enjoying the time with his son. At least his son can sign the forms while there. It seems many if most businesses cannot admit they lost something and try to cover it up by blaming the client.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Sorry about your pain, Barbara.  That Pepper -- what a mess with the yarn!  Glad Syd is doing so well getting ready for school.

It took me a while to figure out that I'm prone to seasickness.  I love the idea of taking a ferry, sightseeing boat, etc. And, I took several ferry rides in the U.S. and Italy with no problem.  Then, we (my ex and I) took a whale-watching trip in Maine, and I was terribly seasick.  But, I thought it was just rough waters and cramps, etc.  So, like a fool, we went on a whale-watching trip again a couple of years later, and I was even more seasick.  Then, it occurred to me that there was a name for this -- duh!  I managed a sightseeing tour without too much problem a couple of years later.  Fast forward to our (current DH and I) cruise to Mexico.  Big cruise ship, and I have no idea that seasickness would be a problem.  Got on the ship, and started dancing (just by myself -- silly, but ...)-- the first dinner was ruined, and I was afraid I would spend the whole time in our cabin.  Eventually, I was better.  And, I have taken some sightseeing trips on boats since then, but I'm nervous about a cruise.

Smart idea about the doctor's office/insurance form, Claudia.  I think you are right -- they just don't want to admit that they had any fault in losing the papers.

Visiting with DH and his son has been very nice.  His son has given me some computer tips, and ideas about how to handle DH's finances.  He asked about DH's pension, Social Security, etc., and I showed him the information.  I think he was surprised that DH doesn't get more from those sources, which is understandable.  I have to admit I did pay much attention to his money/income until he was no longer able to handle his finances.  He had plenty of money for our expenses, going on trips, etc, which was all that mattered to me.

We did get the forms signed and notarized, and I mailed them off to his DD.  Meanwhile, we spent quite a bit of time with DH.  At one point, his son thought it would be a good idea to try to take him out in the car, but that did not work.  DH just could not get into the car, and was so nervous.  We did a bunch of walking.

Last night, we went to dinner at the same restaurant that we went to when you visited, Barbara.  Today, I prepared the meals.  DH's son ate well, so I guess I did okay.  He flies home early tomorrow afternoon from Phoenix, but we will visit DH in the morning before he drives north.

I have to confess that I'm feeling a little guilty since I mentioned to one of the caretakers -- I think she is more like the supervisor of all the caretakers, that I wondered why DH' wheelchair was often being used by a different resident.  Not that DH needs the wheelchair, but why didn't the other guy get a wheelchair.  Later in the day, they brought back DH's wheelchair, and they told the other man's wife that she should get him a wheelchair.  We have a local charity (very nearby) that loans out walkers, wheelchairs, and all sorts of equipment for no charge, and I think she was headed there to pick one up.  The guilt part is that I really feel for her since her husband is the one with hallucinations, etc.  She didn't need an extra burden.  Oh well, what's done is done as my Mom would say.

Hope both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

I found enough energy to go to knitting. It was fun as always. I had hoped to clean the laundry room today or help v do it but that is not going to happen. Lol.

We we had some big thunderstorms and a lot of rain all night. Poor Syd is terrified of storms so she ended up in bed with me. V had to sleep in the family room. We had no flooding, thank goodness.

Linda, it sounds like you and dh are having a nice visit. Those were lovely pictures that you posted.,dh is looking very good ., that is too bad you get seasick. When we took amie on a cruise, we got a prescription for her and she had no problems. We had very rough seas for a couple of days.

we are supposed to havea lot of snow here this winter. I will be gad to be south.

Claudia...good idea to hand deliver important papers. Linda...I would have been very upset with the lawyer.

i hope you both have a good day.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

I am not a snow lover, so I would be happy to be away during a snowy winter, Barbara.  Sorry Syd was so scared with the storms.  Glad you enjoyed knitting, but sorry you are still not feeling very well.

I never tried prescription medicine for seasickness, but I did try sn OTC one suggested by a veterinarian at work -- worked every time for her, but not me.

DH seems to be doing quite well, and even one of the other residents commented on it.  I know he enjoyed his son's visit.  And, I like his son.  But, I have to tell you if you are sitting with two non-talkers (DH due to his illness and his son's normal way), it can feel a bit awkward.  I had some trouble coming up with small talk.  LOL

After the visit this morning, I went to the gym, and I am about to leave for a lecture on how to avoid falls.  Knock on wood, I have not fallen lately, but I really want to avoid doing so, especially due to my osteoporosis.

Middle DGS is not feeling well, and did not go to class yesterday, but he went today because they were having a test/quiz.  DGD is pretty stressed out by some of her classes.  She really doesn't like confrontations, yelling, etc., and apparently there was quite an incident in psychology class yesterday.  Two young women (I think sisters), stood up and started saying how horrible the teacher was, and they used profanity, etc.  Then, they had a quiz/test.  No one in the class did well at all on the first quiz (DGD received the highest grade, and it was a "D")  So, her nerves were on edge to begin with, and these girls just ratcheted it up a bit.  She thinks she did better on the test, thank goodness.

I plan to visit DH after the lecture, and I hope the hospice nurse will be coming as well.

Nothing else to report.

Hope you are doing okay, Claudia, and both of you have a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

I'm glad you were able to go to knitting, Barbara. As for doing stuff at home it gets done when it gets done.. my youngest sister used to be terrified of storms. She'd be rigid as a log. I remember a picnic where she went under the table and dad had to pry her fingers from the wood to carry her to the car. When they tent camped I found she always brought scissors in case the tent caught fire from lightening and she had to cut her way out. She did grow out of it for the most part. Hope Sydnie does too.

Linda, it is difficult finding things to talk about when others aren't talkers. Somehow my mind goes blank and I can't think what to say. I hope things calm down in DGD's class. That would be upsetting .

I felt sick on the large ferry between Wales and Ireland in 04. Since that time I've taken an otc medicine and had no further problems. I've not been on a cruise though.

I did some grocery shopping but not much else today. TT is scheduled for grooming first thing tomorrow.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Good morning. So I am sitting, watching gma this morning and reading the news on my iPad when my phone alert goes off. I forgot I had scheduled my flu shot for 830. I managed to shower, do my hair , get make up on and made it in time. Yikes... I still have my fast skills from working.

i di a bit of cleaning in the laundry room and almost did not make it back up the stairs.,v will finish that.,

Linda...do you think that dgd is having trouble because she was home schooled??! That class does sound kind of rowdy..I am surprise that would happen at a community college. Classrooms can be rowdy...even Syd has experienced that in one of her classes. V said he never would have allowed that kind of behavior when he taught at community college. It says something about the teacher.

i am not good at making small talk either. Bout it was good ds visited.

Claudia, what a story about your sister.. Sydnie is not that bad..lol.

I hope ope to get to Costco today....need to get to the bank also.

have a good day.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Part of the problem may be DGD's inexperience with dealing with other students, but I think the main issue is the class itself -- both the subject and the professor.  Apparently the professor started off with a pretty bad attitude, and some of the students are out of control.  DGD thought she did okay on the second quiz, but she will need to wait for results.   She is a perfectionist, which does not help.

Glad you made it for your flu shot on time.  I can usually get going pretty fast if necessary now that DH is not home.  But,  I try not to push myself too much.  My early morning walks seem to mess me up with early appointments, or at least stress me out.

The hospice nurse did not show yesterday, and she has not called me.  So, I don't know what is happening.  Meanwhile, I fed DH dinner, and we had a nice visit.  I think he really enjoyed having his son here.  His DD and I talked for a while -- she is very understanding about things, which is nice.

My dental visit went fine, and I only had to pay $26 or

so this time -- finally a lower amount than expected.  The dentist never came in to see me, but the hygienist said she saw no problems with the x-rays or the cleaning, and she will show him the x-rays.  He will call if he sees anything that bothers him.

I had such trouble sleeping last night -- no good reason -- no caffeine, no computer near bedtime, no big worries, but I was awake quite a bit.  I'll probably try to take a nap later on this afternoon.   After I visit DH.

DD said the family is going down to visit DGS at college this weekend -- hope that goes well.  He seems to be doing fine.

Meanwhile, the football coach where oldest DGS volunteers resigned, as did several of his assistants.   There was a huge article in the local newspaper.  Quite a mess.  The athletic director is taking over the coaching job for the rest of the season.  The parent filed a police report two weeks after the incident, and apparently, the coach apologized numerous times, but....  He will keep his job as a PE teacher, but I imagine it will not be comfortable for him.

Hope all is well with you today, Claudia, and both of you have a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Good thing you still had your fast skills, Barbara. R gets his flu shot tomorrow at the VA clinic before he goes down to the muzzleloader range. I hope you took it easy after managing to get up the basement stairs.

TT got groomed today. It was a week or so overdue. Griff goes on Tuesday. Adam got his lodging straightened out for reserve. Because the nco messed up the rooms he will be rooming with the commander. Oh my. I put funds in his account for food and gas.

This weekend lows will be in the 40's so R was searching for his long underwear to wear under his buckskins. I ended up going to Tractor Supply and buying a new set.

Linda, I hate those nights when I can't sleep. It's difficult to function the next day. I'm glad the dental appointment went well and was less expensive than you thought it would be. Fingers crossed the football coach drama is over. I imagine continuing as per instructor will be awkward at best for the coach.

I put Bo in his crate , closed the door but didn't latch it. He's quietly resting. I want him to get used to using it.

Earlier today I let Griff out (wish I could tell before letting him out if the neighbor one house up is out). As soon as he spotted her he was barking madly. Mom, mom, she's out. It's very suspicious and she's digging g in her garden and now someone is talking to her over the back fence. Lol. R came out and escorted him into the house.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 18

Good morning.  We are due for more rain...but it should not affect the areas south of the cities that are flooded. Sydnie has a dance camp this weekend so she will be gone most of the day. I watched her practice her tap the other day and she does some intricate, fast steps. She has also mastered grande turns where they turn with one leg out straight. Dance is so much better with thecdance mom drama over.

amies two older girls are resuming piano lessons.,they will get my grand piano some day. Vanessa told me on FaceTime that she wants me to move next door so she can visit every day and make cookies. Sweet.

my hips are hurting today...hope that will pass with time because I have things I would like to accomplish today. If not it will get done eventually.

three weeks from now, I will be on the Oregon coast.

Claudia...one of our distant neighbors complained about peppers barking.,yikes...I always bring her in when she has a barking fit. This is the same guy who cordoned off his tree lawn.,the city told him he could not do that.

Yikes to adam rooming with his commander.

Linda...hope your day goes well. Are you loving your house redo????i am so happy with the floors in the family room. Hope dd and family have a good visit with dgd. We went every weekend to see v3 play..unless he was in Montana.

Hope ped you both have a great day.
