I am short and broader than I'd like to be and I don't worry about stuff like that.  It doesn't change the fact that I am short and broader than I'd like to be, so if I like the look I wear it, even if it isn't the most flattering, my best look, or whatever else upsets a lot of people

 

I don't think others are that worried about me not wearing my most flattering look, and if they are, that would be their problem and not mine.  Not something I stress about.

IMO short over long works if the proportions and layers are correct. If the jacket is too cropped and the tank is too long then it can skew proportions and look "off". I prefer a subtle difference in lengths with the underpinning in the same color family as the bottom pant or skirt.
