ingrave new ipad or not for a new college student gift

buying a relative the new ipad and was wondering should i engrave the first and last name on the ipad, as this person will attend college and i am worried about it being stolen, so i thought perhaps it is a good idea to engrave the name on it when i order it from apple.com.

btw there is no thought to resell as if he tired of it and it was operable and still in good condition, it would be given to his younger sister.

any thoughts welcomed.
