Stored photos are doubling when I view them

I combined older pictures into folders that I created. I deleted all duplicates. When I view my photos in order to make changes to them -- a slow process, they double showing a (2) after the name or number. It keeps happening.

Any advice, help would be appreciated. I only want one of each not two. This is happening when I view them, not when I am fixing them.
