I bought a used car 2 years ago and the upholstery looks disgusting.
It's cloth. I've never had cloth upholstery -- always leather.
I tried "covers" but they don't stay on.
What's the cheapest thing to do?
1- Shampoo at a detail shop (does that even work?)
2- Reupholster existing seats
Feedback/your experiences are appreciated.

Car washes offer packages that include shampooing the seats.

Have you tried using the little green machine, and doing it your self?

If what you've tried yourself hasn't worked to your satisfaction, you can take it to a detailer for suggestions and estimates.

You can do a "search" on the internet for approximate reupholstery prices.
It's gonna be expensive, and you might not want to INVEST that kind of cash in an old car. Something to think about.....

If you've tried seat covers and they didn't stay on then maybe they weren't the right fit. I've had some where the covers are secured with straps and hooks. They did not move.

If you take your car to a good detail shop that should make the difference. Like used car lots, they have special cleaning agents that get out the stains and actually will give a car back that new smell.
I know they do this before reselling a car. They also change the cabin cruise filter. These are like miracle workers.😃

Depending on what you can do yourself with one of those pet carpet cleaners (I use one for my floor mats) they can get better.
But I second the vote for a good detail shop.
If they bother you, then you deserve a solution.

Just clean them up. There are plenty of upholstery cleaners on the market.
We have a vehicle with cloth seats and clean the carpet and seats at least once a year.
We also clean and condition the leather seats in our vehicles.
It's not that difficult. It's best to clean them on a hot day so the seats dry fast.

@RinaRina I would try a detail shop. They are miracle workers! I found a coupon on groupon. I make an appointment, drop it off and catch an uber home and they call me when its finished. i am always thrilled when my car is finished. Good Luck!!
