Phone use without protective cases

I always SMH when I see cell phone accessories sold that require the phones to be "nekkid", without a case on them, in order to be used. Lori Grenier's charger is just one example. Who carries their expensive cell phone around without any protection on it, or who is fine with wrestling cases on and off multiple times a day? I don't care what it is, if it must be used without a case I don't even consider buying it. Is it just me?

Re: Phone use without protective cases

I don't know about Lori's cases, just the one that used to be on my smartphone which I never had to remove to charge the phone.  However, I got tired of hauling my heavy case around and removed it and carry just the phone.  I started that more than 2 years ago, thinking I was going to buy a new phone and didn't much care if getting rid of that ugly case caused a problem.  So far, so good - no reason to buy a better case or a new phone!

Re: Phone use without protective cases

My LG smart phone is 3 years old, never used a screen protector and it is like new.  My hubby's is the same, and his case broke the first week, and he has been using his with no case or screen protector, and it too is fine, like new, no scratches or breakage or anything.

I hate the heavy cases, and would not like the quality of the screen compromised by something over it.  Yes, I've dropped my phone several times, out of my pocket on hard floors but it was ok.

Re: Phone use without protective cases

I have an old Samsung Note.  It is large and heavy.   I have used it almost 3 years and it's acting sluggish.  I want another phone, but can't warrant buying one with this one is still "sort of ok".  LOL

I think I'll take my case off of it and take my chances.  It would be so much better without a case.

I did drop it once on our porcelain tile kitchen floor with the case on it and it bounced around.  I doubt I'd still have it if I hadn't had the case on it.  But since I want a new phone anyway.....

Thanks for the idea!

@knittykitty I had to look it up since I didn't know either.  It is "Shaking My Head".

I have 5 devices that required charging.I can't see the need for any special device to charge them.  I have a power strip all set up with adapters and cords for each device.  The device cases have access to plug-in slot.

Re: Phone use without protective cases

It must in part be due to the cost of the phone, and whether one pays for phone insurance.

I have never taken an iPhone out of the Apple store without a case and screen protector. Even *with* insurance the deductible ranges from $30-100 and the insurance itself is $130 with Apple, somewhat less with Square Trade.

Even when I had inexpensive PAYG and Tracfones, I cared whether they broke (admittedly, I cared less, however). Less and less is buying the phone over time from your carrier going to be the norm it once was, and more and more people will be directly responsible for accidental damage.

None of my cases have added greatly to the weight of my phones. They do add some of course, but I just accept that as the price to pay for not breaking the phone.

The charger that Lori is selling works similarly to the cases that have a charger built in (and are heavy and bulky as I understand it), but it's not a case. In order to charge your phone with it you have to plug your case-less phone into it.

I often plug my phone in to charge in my car, which has two charging ports. Almost anywhere I go, it's charged or close to it by the time I get there. I also bought an inexpensive setup recently at Costco to charge two i-devices at the same time.

Re: Phone use without protective cases

I wouldn't carry my phone without a screen protector and case.  My case doesn't add any noticeable weight.  I had the glass screen protector put on at the store where I bought it, and it doesn't compromise the quality of the screen at all.  I can't tell any difference.
