I agree with the spirit of this phrase, but I hate the word "fake" it. It's more like...you need to have enormous confidence in yourself....but that doesn't make for nice, catchy phrase.😺

Faking it may work short term for some but for long-term success,  you must be authentic.   Your true self will always be revealed eventually.

"Fake it till you make it"  is the way I heard it

like pretend you are happy until you are

it's what I have done all this year since my Dad died last Dec

I think the quote is "you have to fake it until you make it" meaning if you feel insecure in some area like a job or relationship, etc. you have to act like you are feeling good about yourself until the day arrives when you truly are self confident. Just a few words difference in the quote can make a whole lot of difference in its meaning.
