The old TV show Lassie, especially the episode where Lassie had pups and they were giving them away to people to raise and Lassie did not want to give up her pup Laddie. Thank goodness they let her keep Laddie or I would have never gotten over it.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence starring the kid from Sixth Sense. To create life just to cruelly destroy it when you change your mind is reprehensible, especially when the robot child is abandoned in the woods. He doesn't understand and cries Mother as she drives away.

I have difficulty with any films about dogs. We have a fourteen year old yellow
(really white) Labrador much like Marley. Every day with him is a gift now.
My husband and I both cry watching amazing dog movies.
as kids: Ol' Yeller
Marley and Me
There are so many, and I have forgotten titles. Sorry.

My memory has gotten so bad that I couldn't think of anything, although I'm pretty sure there are plenty of examples.
So I came to read what others had to say and, seeing that you mentioned 'West Side Story', I was brought to my memory of this one.
I first saw it in the movie theater and will never forget the soliloquoy of Natalie Wood's character in the end. If I saw this movie 100 times that would just break me into a million pieces every time!
