Eat pickled herring? Bang pot lids ? One friend used to say it is important for the first person to come over your threshold to be a man so she would make her DH go out before midnight then come back in one min after.

Never have thought about doing a "ritual" ...or anything for that matter

I have eaten grapes, black eyed peas, hoppin john, cornbread, pork, greens and have the first footer be the first to enter the door with gifts. I do not do laundry on the first. Haha, I enjoy putting that aside for the day.
You leave one door or window open right before midnight and open another one .
I can remember in years past people posting about banging pots.

We have blackeyed peas, turnip greens and hog jowl at noon on January 1 for luck. May have to have a BIG helping this year for the ballgame!

DH and I usually kiss and wish each other a happy new year. This will be the 54th time.

I’ve heard about making a lot of noise at midnight with the doors and windows open to chase the devil out, or to let the old year out. Also, you want a dark haired man to be the first to cross your threshold to ensure good luck. Being from the South, I make a big pot of blackeyed peas seasoned with ham and smoked sausage! Serve that with cornbread for Luck and Fortune in the New Year.
Fun topic. I love hearing about traditions and rituals others observe!

Being a Texas native, I always ate fresh black eyed peas at midnight and then again during the day. But you can't get them in PA so that ritual went by the wayside.
Now, I just cross my fingers and hope for a good year for me and mine.

Nothing. I've never heard of such a thing as NYE rituals.
