RE couples' life expectancy... who REALLY lives longer?

Statistically, coupled women outlive men. Anecdotally, when I look at the five most recent deaths among couples I know, more have been women.

man- 67 years

man- 35 years

woman- 38 years

woman- 75 years

woman- 54 years

Three of the deaths have been parents of my students, and each person on my list had been ill (3/5 with cancer, 1 with an infection after organ transplant, 1 with aneurysm).
