Question about Amtrak travel: Albany to NYC

I want to travel from Albany to NYC and the Amtrak listing says "No Checked Bags" so can I carry on a roll on bag the size that would fit in a airplane overhead? Guess you can tell I don't travel on trains!

Yes, you can take a bag that size on board the train.

Re: Question about Amtrak travel: Albany to NYC

Usually on those long distance trains (as opposed to commuter trains) there's more room between the seats-front to back.   You could sit comfortably with a large, stand up type roller suitcase on the floor in front of you.

If you have more luggage than they allow as "carry-on" they will box it & charge you for "cargo".  They allow quite a bit for carry-on, more than an airline.

There's lots of good information on the Amtrak website, also talk to someone at your Albany station or call the number on the website.  Amtrak uses various different cars but they do have some overhead storage.

Choose the train with fewer stops, you'll arrive in less time.

I love the train, hope you enjoy your trip.  I'm a germ-aphobe so I pack cleaning products for myself to use in the bathrooms.   But that's me.

Whenever I have traveled by Amtrak, commuter distance, there was a luggage storage space by one of the doors. You can stow your suitcase there, too.

Amtrak doesn't check bags, but you definitely can bring them onto the train.

Amtrak does offer checked baggage on some trains, depending on destinations.

However not on trains between Albany & NYC

You can take 2 bags on most trains to NYC.  Here are the weight and size restrictions:
